    Graphics card and memory BSOD

I tried to install a new graphics card and memory in my oldpc, but am suffering from BSOD and running out of ideas. Can anybody suggest what I might do next?

The computer is an AMD Athlon 9350e with W7. I put in the NVIDIA Gigabyte GTX 1050 on theadvice of the original suppliers, Novatech, to support a new 4k monitor.I also put in 2 x 4Gb DDR2 800 cards fromSiQuell, to replace the existing 2 x 2Gb cards from VData (it’s a 2 slotmotherboard).Neither the graphics cardnor the memory were bought from Novatech, because they won’t ship to Francewhere I live and anyway don’t sell DDR2 anymore, so I can’t ask them about theproblem.

The computer booted ok and showed that 8Gb was present. Then I attempted to load the graphics driverand it crashed with BSOD.I removed thememory and loaded the driver using the old memory, also loading the graphicsengine. The graphics card now worksfine, but it BSODs as soon as I put in the 8Gb memory cards. The new cards work fine in Safe Mode and, asfar as I can tell, Linux.

I have run a memory test on boot and it seems ok, but the pccrashes before I see the full report. Itried reinstalling the graphics card in Safe Mode with the new memory, but itcame up with an error (GvledService.exe Open Driver Handle Failure inMapMem_Phys_To_Linear).No irq clashesare apparent in Safe Mode and I can’t check them in Normal Mode because the pccrashes. The BIOS is on its defaultsettings and doesn’t seem to have an option for memory hole remapping.

So am I missing something obvious? My next step is to buy memory from adifferent supplier and try that, but it seems daft (and expensive) when it isclearly ok in everything except Normal Mode.Or maybe replace the motherboard and go to W10 with DDR4....
I've zipped up the dmp files but am struggling to upload them. So there's another problem (sigh), which I'll fix and then I'll post them in this thread.

    BSOD dmp files

Attached are the BSOD dump files which failed to upload before. Any help would be very, very useful!

    Hi pantalone,

It sounds like the 2x4 DDR2 RAM is faulty, the only thing you could do is not use it.

I don't know if checking to see if you have the latest BIOS would do any good or not ? ECS states that 16 GB Could Possibly be the RAM limit, But they've Never Tested the MOBO with more than 4 GBs

Thanks guys. I've spent the evening updating drivers, in the hope that it's a problem in there somewhere, but it feels like clutching at straws. I think that the BIOS is the latest (will confirm), but I hadn't heard that they never tested it with more than 4Gb - just read what it said on the packet about 16Gb.

And the point that I might have duff memory is a distinct possibility. Getting to the point where I have to disinter the chequebook and try it...

Updated drivers removed the BSOD, but it was still crashing. Have now ordered RAM from another manufacturer. Will update the thread when I receive and try it. Maybe axe0 was right!

Ooooo.....now that looks pretty definitive to me. Am I right in thinking that if the DRAM is limited to 4Gb, there's no way it's ever going to get to the 16Gb in the spec?

I Just Don't Know if the BIOS will support more or not

You may be able to Google on Overclock Forums etc. and see if anyone ever posted that they had more than 4 GB installed ? The Specs are getting quite dated, so I don't know if spending money to upgrade is a good idea if it's still capable of doing what you need ?

I'm beginning to get to the point where I agree with you. Many thanks for your advice. I'll spend some time exploring overclocking and if it suggests somebody else has done it I might have a go and I'll repost on this thread. Failing that, I'll close the thread and go shopping for a new motherboard, which will probably open a whole new can of worms.
