Ouch, 0x124. Probably problem with CPU or other hardware
But did you install new software?

latest steps taken incl intel diagnostic tool test

I use CoreTemp widget and it shows all temps at or below 50 and always has.

downloaded the intel processor diagnostic tool and it failed. said it failed the memory size test and at that point stopped doing any other of the tests. intel does not provide any info I can find on what this actually means or what to do about it.

tried reading some things about update bios but they seem to be written for people with degrees in nuclear techonology lol

    Hi msongs,

I would suggest to focus on the memory.
See RAM - Test with Memtest86+, instead of memtest86 run Intel Processor Diagnostic tool.

did memtest86 - no problems found?

so I booted into memtest and it ran through a default cycle and after about 45 minutes said no problems found. press escape to exit.

the intel test which said memory fail unfortunately does not provide any information about what it means or why it is failed or how to fix it. net search brings up no help on that either.

latest bsod yesterday just froze with desktop and program in progress no weird noise or color:

I notice that on each crash the BCCode is 124 and line BCP2 is always slightly different after the

    FFFFFA8006E.... part

Please run the memtest linked, it tests the memory more extensively.
