Windows 7 ultimate no longer working after bios update
Hi, I bought a new CPU an amd fx 8350 for asus 990fx sabertooth r1.0 with bios 0402
in the support link : SABERTOOTH 990FX CPU Support | Motherboards | ASUS Global
i bought a new cpu amd fx 8350 which needs bios 1604 i downloaded this and flashed my bios on my mother board.
before this windows 7 ultimate was working fine. after a reboot i get to the boot manager and will have windows try and boot showing the windows logo and right after crashes. no bsod or any message on the screen. it just turns to black screen and reboots the computer. i do know the bios has the default settings.
I do remember back when I built the computer that windows 7 utlimate cd wouldn't boot and it was due to it not supporting eufi the new bios tech. i remember I had to go into bios and put int boot settings to allow legacy os's to be supported.
So, I spent 3 to 4 hours looking around in bios and monkeying with it. I looked at the boot settings there's nothing that says secure boot nor enable csm or anything like that. It just shows the hard drive in a booting list and has the setting s to turn on and off the boot logo screen etc. there's nothing there that can change such a setting.
I have 2 computers. one has the sabertooth r2.0 and the one I am currently working on is the 1.0 version.
on my 2.0 version I upgraded the bios a while back but it's different . i never had an issue when I updated my cpu to a new cpu. the parts are the same. I have the same ram, same amd fx 8350 cpu the only difference is that my computer is 2.0 and the one I am working on is 1.0 version.
Yes, this sabertooth 990fx 1.0 does support this cpu after a bios update. the computer does detect the cpu.
It's just that I can get to boot manager where it lists windows 7 ultimate and linux manjaro.
iI can select windows 7 to boot and it just shows text with a logo animation above it of the windows logo and then after a while it restarts the computer.
i tried to go into safe mode booted windows 7 and before the splash screen. I hit f8 and it shows me a list of options one is safe mode which I select and it starts loading files to a certain point and then hangs. I would have to manually reboot the computer.
I really need suggestions and trying to avoid having to reinstall the computer. there shouldn't be anything wrong with the computer. The hard drive is fine and isn't currupted. I can use the bios and the flash utility and actually go into the hard drive file system to see files on the drive. That's how I flashed the rom to the bios to update the bios.
I need advice what i should do next. It's my understanding that there's no issues with the hard drive. All this happened after I updated the bios. Before doing this windows would boot up properly and I had no issues. It just started right after the update.
My guess is that I have to set something in the bios to legacy mode to get it to work because I remember when I built the the computer i had a hard time installing windows 7 onto the system and i remember going into bios and setting a legacy setting which after that allowed the cd to boot and start the windows 7 ultimate installation process.
My feeling is that I have to do this but I do know in the bios I have there's no option in the boot settings. there's nothing in the in the manual about booting in legacy mode.
any ideas?
