BSOD playing assorted games, error 0x00000124 ntoskrnl.exe

I've been getting BSODs basically with increasing frequency for the past few months. I really can't tell what's causing them; there doesn't seem to be a common thread other then that it happens when I'm playing a game (it's happened on Rising storm 2, Garrysmod, CS:GO, and GTAV). In the last 24 hours I had 3 and decided that I needed to figure out what was causing it. I've been going through different troubleshooting guides and other things online to try to figure out what might be causing this issue. I've already updated completely through Windows Update so that's not the problem. Other then that, walk me through the troubleshooting steps you can and I'll do them all. Thanks for the help!

    Hi Duby23-

Do you have a discrete graphics card? If so, it may be overheating. If that's plausible, check to make sure that fan openings and fan blades are clean.

So a while back I identified that my CPU temp gauge seemed really hot (95-99c). After I messed around with fan temps and even replaced the thermal paste, I assumed that the temps were faulty and the sensor was busted. Because of what you said wither 2, I revisited this issue and found out that my heat-sink wasn't fully connected to the motherboard. I fixed that issue and the temps are much better now, but are still a bit high on intensive games. I plan to get an after-stock cooler and see if that improves my temps even more. I will keep you posted on whether I have any more BSODs after fixing the heatsink.

Normally, if the CPU overheats, it will shut down the system without a BSOD. Is that heat sink for the CPU?

Yes it is. The GPU runs at 60C consistently when running a heavy game which seems ok, I don't think that's overheating. If the system shuts down without a BSOD when the cpu overheats then I guess it might be something else. I'll come back to this thread if I have another BSOD and we can go from there.
