Freeze without dump

Hello,

I've some problems on a new computer. It freeze (no more mouse/keyboard) without BSOD. It happened 12 times during november and I just have the Kernel-Power critical error in the eventlog.
I had three bsod (minidump attached) but I don't know if they are related to the same problem.

Here it is some details about the computer :
MB : Supermicro X8DA3
CPU : Dual Xeon E5530
Memory : 6x4GB
OS : Windows 7 Pro 64 bits.
GPU : GF 9600GT

Thank you if somebody can help me.

This seems to be a problem with your dual CPU board and Windows 7.
This seems to be the only fix for your board....

ok,
I have further narrowed this down to how Windows 7 handles the Intel C-State values - ie it doesn't very well at all. So if you have a computer with an Intel processor(s) which utilise C-State technology (basically if you have ANY new processor from Intel!) you will/may have to disable that ability in the BIOS of your computer.

Intel C-State technology is basically the ability to lower the frequency and power to the cores of the processor to save power (and correspondingly heat generated) during idle/low demand operations. With C-State disabled the processors will run at full frequency all the time.

It seems that in my system using Nehalem Xeon CPU's the 16 cpu is triggering a shutdown value of the system by windows 7.

I suggest anyone having possible freezes/lockups/random shutdowns to have a look in you BIOS and DISABLE C-State and assess the impact on your stability.

Hi chev65 !

I didn't had all the bugs Zeyphod explain, even thought the old x8da3 bios releases were pretty bad.

And the most funny : C-state are already disabled, but for another reason.

From what I can see he describes your problem exactly and has the exact same board with the same amount of memory as you do. I don't see him having any bugs other than the fact that enabling the second CPU causes lockups.

Msoft says Windows 7 pro has support for dual cpu machines. But it doesn't look like it's working too well so far. That is about all I can find on this so far,.
If it were me having this problem I might be inclined to adjust the memory timings and voltages along with the CPU FSB and northbridge voltages.

I didn't had any problem to install Win 7 Pro x64 with the 2 cpu in place, which is a BIG bug.
And the C-state are disabled since a few weeks.

I'm not sure what your point is about him having some bug as you call it. This is the exact same problem you are having other than he also can't install with both processors enabled unless he disables C-state like you already have done.

He even mentions that disabling C-state does not fix the problem completely and only allowed him to install Windows with both CPU's enabled,... the installation worked for you because you already have C-state disabled which he didn't.

He has the Exact same board as you, with the exact same processor, regardless of if Windows installed or not, dual cpu support for your board with Windows 7 is apparently not working correctly. He reported having the exact same problems as you are having, even after disabling C-state IMO.

That is right from Technet, but unfortunately Msoft has not responded to him about a patch or possible fix.

You might want to watch that thread because Msoft may still reply to him with a fix after they have reproduced the problem on another machine.

I will check the thread but I really doubt he has the same problem as I have because I can use this computer with eist/c-state enabled too.
And a friend has the same motherboard, running windows 7, without problem.
