BSOD after update - i can't fix it

Hi all, hope you can help me fix my issue. PC was working perfectly fine until some updates were installed, i noticed that when the pop said updates finished, on one of them it had said failed, but i didn't take much notice as i've seen failed updates many times and they did not cause any issues. After my PC rebooted i got the BSOD, i managed to video what it said:

Windows 7 64bit Svc pack 1 (i think!)

STOP C000021a Fatal System Error
The session manager initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000003a(0x00000000,0x00000000)

After this the PC reboots and launches startup repair. Startup repair failed the first 2 times, on the third attempt it said:

System Volume on disk is corrupt
Repair action File system repair (chkdsk)
Result Completed successfully error code 0x0

Upon reboot i got the same bsod and error code.

I then tried last good known config, did not work, i tried restore point, did not work.

When i reboot and press F8 and try any of the safe modes i also get the same bsod. I have been able to get to command prompt and tried the following solution but yielded no fix for me:

bootrec.exe /fixmbr
bootrec.exe /fixboot
bootrec.exe /rebuildbcd

I then came across this post Operating system comes up with Blue Screen Error: Stop c000021a | Ask the Core Team but i stopped halfway as my Current Value was 2 and not 1. I did however check all controlsets and mountmgr was all set to 0 anyway.

So i have chucked in the towel and now looking for the pros help with this.

On the same PC i have 2 ssd's one with win 7 and the other win 10 which i am currently logged in to and typing this. My MB is set to boot to the Win 7 ssd, when i want to use win 10 i have to i have to use MSI Mboard F11 to pick which ssd to boot from. After having run the bootrec stuf above i notice that when i tries to boot to win 7 it now shows win 10 on the boot selection, but if i click on Win 10 it gives me some error. If i go back to the F11 i can boot in to Win 10 no problems.

NOTE about the DM Log Collector - since i am unable to boot into Win 7 to run it, i have run it from my win 10 so i'm not sure if it will be any use or not.

What happens if you remove the W10 drive.

And a screenshot of Disk management would be handy

logs will need to come from W7.

hi, i forgot to mention that i did unplug the Win 10 ssd, still got bsod, i unplugged all peripherals as well and still got bsod. Disk management is taken from Win 10, the drive shown as D is the one with Win 7 on it.

How would i be able to get the logs done for Win 7 as the only thing i seem to be able to do with it get cmd from recovery counsel.

Hey guys, hope I can get some help on this, I figure it’s time to just do a fresh install. My problem is that my last backup was 6 months ago & there are files I need & cant afford to lose on this non working win 7.

I have a copy of Hirens Boot CD which has some back up software on it, should I use this or do I need something else? And am I creating an image rather than a clone?

I have looked at the eventlog which you posted when booted from the W10 disk. I did see the following message which relates to your Win 7 disk:

No I’ve not done what’s writtten above because I don’t know how to decipher the loss �� I did however do a CHKDSK without the scan switch which came back as no errors. In order to what is listed above do I just need to run that from the start up repair cmd? Would I need to change directory or can I run it from x?

Use this tutorial to see the various CHKDSK options. It is a Windows 10 tutorial for when booted into W10 and you need to specify the disk you want to scan and fix. I think it will be D based on your earlier post.

i ran a chkdsk from win 10 on the win 7 drive and it said it had fixed some errors in the screenshot below. After restarting i still got the BSOD in win7. I then ran from cmd chkdsk /scan and it found no errors, tried to boot to win 7, still bsod.

on another note, i had earlier read a post over here Windows 7, "Repair your computer" F8 boot option not working (SOLVED) | Acronis Forum but i think it had more to do with people not being able to get to the recovery stage, i ran bcdedit /enum all and my results seemed to show more than 1 boot loader, boot manager etc etc and this was done without my win 10 plugged in. Not sure if i'm barking up the wrong tree with this but either way the fixes are more personalized to you own pc so it's something beyond my abilities.

It was a long shot but I hoped the error fixing might have helped. I guess you plan to try a fresh install next - make an image backup first and then you can retrieve any files in the future.
