Update. After two hours, I finally got a USB drive loaded with Memtest86, then couldn't get it to boot.

Had to search and wrestle with BIOS to get it to recognize and put USB at top of boot list. I think.
    I've never done this junk.

Before, I had a CD ROM with Memtest86 on it, but that is lost.

At any rate, booted and instead of launching Memtest scan, it is nothing but a black screen
with a blinking white cursor in the top upper left.

Completely unresponsive to mouse or keyboard.

UPDATE: Took out flash drive. Had to physically reboot. Computer started normally.

I found Memtest86 CD disk. Rebooted F10, and Bios had rejected my "make USB top priority setting".

Put in Memetest, rebooted normally. Again, Black screen, white cursor, but after ten seconds, suddenly Memtest launched.

People online say this frozen black screen indicates a virus.

How many Memtest passes do you need me to run?

Hello, thanks. It has been a Looooong time since this problem started and this thread started.
I'm pretty sure I already ran ScanNow.

At the moment, the computer is running Memtest, and it takes DAYS for that to run the number of reccomended passes, can't remember how many have to be run.

That, at the moment, is the information I need: How Many Passes needed?

After that, happy to run the scans you suggest, though would like to know why you suggest them.

I can't tell if I 'm doing this right or not, trying to post DM Log collector.

Ran Memtest86 for eight passes, said Zero Errors.

    Hi Bearcat,

    going thru the event logs
theres a Machine check exception 14 on your Northbridge.

    So i googled
this is about the only post i could find, so its rather unusuall

    AMD Northbridge Machine Check Exception?

Really need to see the relevent details pane from the event error.
    (Network adapters ?? see below)

Update your Network adapters, and UNCHECK both boxes in the power management tab

I was able to find a Google page that told how to update Network adapters, and they now say they are all up to date.
However, you're not giving me enough information.
WHERE is this power management tab?

Thank you. Unfortunately, it might be too late.

At some point in this months long process, I took this sick computer to MicroCenter and paid for
an analysis. They said I had bad RAM, and sold me replacement RAM.

This turned out to be completely wrong. The old RAM was fine.

Since I wanted an upgrade anyway, I purchased more RAM online and installed it with no issues.

Long story short, Microcenter agreed to a refund.
This return happend days ago. I took out all the RAM sticks to find out which ones had to go
    back to the store.

Returning home, I put RAM back in, turned on computer,
and it beeped. Reseated the two RAM, just two of the four I have, and:

    and got a black
    screen with this message:

Your computer can't come out of hibernation.
    Status 0x0000411
Info: An error occured processing the restoration data
    File: \hibefil.sys
Any information that was not saved before the computer went into hibernation will be lost.

It said Enter at the bottom.

I probably made a mistake, I just physically shut down the computer, and that is where it is now.
I should mention that at some point I purchased third party physical CD restoration disks for Windows 7, but never used them. The license key sticker is still on the machine.
