Windows 7: Computer keeps on freezing, sometimes BSOD

i did exactly that, spent a wonderful evening with my computer which was on for many hours, played music for me, helped me work on my graphic design homework, displayed no errors or warnings at all in the event viewer and then i come back home now, after updating my BIOS in the morning, and after a few minutes i got another BSOD.

i still have some problematic devices such as:

Standart ps/2 keyboard
microsoft ps/2 mouse

the Unknown Device under the universal serial bus controllers.

i have no idea if one of them is causing this mega annoying problem.

when ever i try to update the keyboard and mouse drivers i'm told that the best driver software for these devices is installed and i have no idea where to look for a substitute for those.

could the problem be a wrong setting in the BIOS? i have a few default options there for the operating system like Raid default and so on...

i'm adding the latest minidump crash file for you to check.

should i restore the machine to a restore point yesterday in order to relive the great time i had with the computer or will that not do any good?

I'd do these two things.

First, update your network driver manually using the device manager and the download for NVIDIA on your motherboard page I previously linked to.

Right click it. Update driver software. Browse. Let me pick. Have disk. Browse. Double click on the extracted .inf for the lan. Hit ok. Hit next.

Then after, do a Windows update because you have an older Microsoft filter driver that could possibly be updated this way.

Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8.1 Pro,

I'am just curious about your memory, how did you end up with 3327MB?

i'm still getting them. sometimes it's okay for an evening but they are still happening.

would you mind checking the minidump files and telling me if something looks suspicious?

i'm way beyond frustrated now. have absolutely no idea what to do.

All 4 are STOP 0x101 errors. More info here: BSOD Index

Most likely:
a) BIOS bug
b) a driver whose activity is causing the target processor to lock up
c) a hardware defect (temperature, voltage, dust, RFI, outright borkedness...)
I'd start by looking at your network drivers (athr.sys)
If they're outdated, then update them.
If they're current, then uninstall them and install a fresh copy.

The only other thing that I saw was that cng.sys was present in the stack of the first dump. This is a cryptography driver - so I'd wonder about any cryptographic stuff on the system, or maybe malware.

Beyond that I'd suggest:
- ensuring that your BIOS is updated to the latest version
- ensure that the stuff I mention above is checked on
- check on the hardware possibilities (temperature, voltage, dust, RFI, outright borkedness...)

If all that doesn't work, then I'd suggest trying Driver Verifier with specific settings - but not until you've verified that everything else is squared away.

thanks for the answer

what is a cryptography driver? how can i detect if i have (?) one or how to get rid of (?) it?

regarding the bios, i have the latest version which is the 1.90 for my motherboard N68-S. i've always downloaded the windoes version of the BIOS from the ASROCK website, i hope that was the correct thing to do.

i'm going to attend the network drivers in a second.

and as for the hardware, is there a way to know if there's a problem? is there a program that helps you detect such issues or that gives you info about what the ideal situation should be?

Bios are independent from version of Windows you are running. The installer you're using however, can depend on needing Windows. The alternative way to update the bios is by booting to dos off a floppy or another medium.

I noticed your chipset drivers seem a little older. You can try to update them from here too, as well.
