log in screen, 0x0116 due to driver dxgkrnl.sys - Win7 /gtx780

It all started after power outage (me thinks)
at first screen was occasionally stuttering and getting stuck in solid colors while gaming without crashing the games needing either to force quit the app or force restart
then auto force restarts followed by number of BSOD with IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL after some work I am stuck at 0x00000116 due to driver dxgkrnl.sys

i tried so far:
Advanced boot- System Repair
sfc /scannow
checking connections on vid card
swapping RAM with older sticks I have around
re-greasing GPU heatsink
updating to the newest nvidia drivers (430.86) - resulted in complete loss of display, not even bios- had to remove the card and use the integrated card to un-instal the driver.
installed the nvidia driver 399.24
manually expanding nvlddmkm.sys into system32/drivers directory
reg edit the DirectX version in orde to fool the installer to install over the existing files (did not work, and i revert the reg changes)
sfc /scannow did not detect anything worng last time i ran it

What happens now is after un-installing the GTX 780 from safe mode, the system boots fine but while out of safe mode the system will auto install gtx 780 which will result in black screen and minidump being generated upon next boot (this also happens if i try to update the driver with the nvidia utility- 399 driver since 430 doesn't work at all)

EDIT: What I am trying to do is to repair the Direct X but I can't find a safe way to remove it/revert to older version in order to install it frsh

System:
Win 7 x64
GTX 780
i7 3.5Ghz
16Gb RAM - checked with one stick of 4Gb

1. Run Driver Verifier
2. Select "Create standard settings"
3. Select "Select driver names from a list"
4. Select all drivers WITHOUT Microsoft drivers
5. Reboot computer

I ran it from safe mode after installing the nvidia driver which I had to manually add to the list since it wasn't loaded in safe mode but nothing happened since I get bsod after splash screen.
I like this suggestion but i would be inclined to include the MS drivers due to the direct x issue... unless I'm missing something here...
I'm gonna mess around with this utility as it's the only thing I can do at this point thanks

Windows 7 Ultimate x32 With Sp1 + Vista Ultimate x32 with Sp1 & Sp2 !!

Hi All,
@royroy :

1. Delete all the .dmp files from the Minidump folder for new ones!

2. Whocrashed suggests to update Windows & NVIDIA Graphic Card driver.

3. As per theory : The best way to update any device is to first uninstall it totally/properly so that the driver stops coming back automatically & device entry stops telling the brand name in the Device Manager. Then there will be only a very generic/basic M$ driver installed for the device representing the device with a very generic name. Then you have to install the updated driver over it. But its not applicable to all the devices!
Actually, when we uninstall a device from Device Manager in normal mode, a box is presented to delete the driver. Otherwise it will come back & install the driver automatically on the restart as you said. We have to practically confirm whether it is applicable to a NVIDIA Graphic card & that also in the safe mode! What's your truth ?
There are also some other things, that we will take in account a little later.

4. What happens now is after un-installing the GTX 780 from safe mode, the system boots fine but while out of safe mode the system will auto install gtx 780 which will result in black screen and minidump being generated upon next boot
Boot into safe mode, disable NVIDIA card from Device Manager, boot into normal mode, observe the things & report the look, etc.
Maintain the status ( NVIDIA disabled ) if some stability is shown. Then follow here & attach the report : Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions
The best of it comes from running in normal boot. If no way to run it from/in normal boot, run it from Safe Mode.

5. You may open up your arms here : STOP 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR troubleshooting

6. Also update your system specs. When the PC shows some stability in Normal mode, run the Speccy Portable & edit your specs with that information : Speccy - Portable

7. Its very necessary to make sure whether its a pure Hardware or Software problem. We will consider that a little later.

8. You said that you took out the Nvidia card. Did you boot in normal mode after that ? Did it stop BSODs ? How was the overall graphic look, activity & its quality ? ( In a dual graphic card system, when the planted card is removed, all the graphic activities are assigned to the on board graphic card ) What's your truth ?

9. It all started after power outage (me thinks)
You can perform Hard Reset as here : BSOD while playing Warframe, caused by driver rdpencdd.sys

Let me know.

Thanks & Regards. ...

Hi Vineet,

1- done

2,3- I'm actually reading and posting this in normal boot with generic VGA adapter drivers. Thats the only stable config right now. Installing any driver causes the crash

4- attached (zip)

5- Furmark will not work without the driver so I can't test it. I have monitored the temperature and its at 35*C, this happens immediately so there is no real time to over heat.

6-attached (txt)

7-The machine was stable for at least one month after any changes so not sure if this could be something that eventually caused the problem or the power outage damaged something. One of the things that was added was a Audio card that uses its its own power rail from PSU, and upon boot it switches off and on the transistors that control the insulated circuit. I know I haven't verified if this was using the Video Card rail or not, but it was removed since and it did not fix the issue- I am just not sure if the rail was not damaged because of it being introduced and maybe strained the rail to failure. I have tried using HWiNFO64 to check the voltages but I can only see the rail that mother board uses, what i am suspecting is that either the 12v rail that the card uses are faulty or the card itself gave up eventually not sure how to test it without buying a new card/psu

8- again I'm using the normal boot now with generic drivers and it works, when i took out the card i simply used the integrated HDMI port and everything was fine so i will rule out memory issues, me thinks

9-I will try hard reset after work, I'm also preparing a clean SSD to try and install Win10 since Win7 won't be supported next year anyway may as well switch now if it all fails and that should determine if this is hardware issue at this point.

However if you find something in the files I submitted that could help I will appreciate it a lot since it will take me days to migrate to the new OS with all the things i have here.

Thanks you for all your help, and sorry about any mistakes.

Windows 7 Ultimate x32 With Sp1 + Vista Ultimate x32 with Sp1 & Sp2 !!

Hi,

1. I found some ODDs!
(i) Heavily loaded Hard Disks Drives C: & E:
Ideally the disks should not be occupied that much!
40% Occupied : Ideal
60% Occupied : Good
75% Occupied : OK OK
Yours : very bad
(iii) How is Disk D: ( 186 GB ) ?
(iii) Antivirus Disabled ?
(iv) Opera using more than 5GB Ram at the moment ?
(v) Any problem device in Device Manager ?

2. Some questions :
(i) Can you arrange an USB 3 pen drive of 16GB or more capacity ? The bigger the better!
(ii) Is it a custom build Desktop or Branded one ? Did it come pre installed with win 7 ? did it come with an OEM license & Retail win 7 key ? ( May be you are having two licenses & can keep genuine Win 7 & Win 10 together )
(iii) Now that you are running NVIDIA with basic VGA driver ? How is the overall look , Graphics, etc. ? Does it look like Safe Mode ?
(iv) Which win 10 version you are planning to work/go with ?

Let me know.

Thanks & Regards. ...

Cool, I will think twice next time I'm being asked to make some sort of report and post it here.

Update to anyone who experiences the same problem:
Hardware issue, VRM on GPU is overheating causing it to shut down whenever its activated but functions fine under generic drivers that do not use it.

If you have similar issues or your GPU got all 'sweaty' under the heat sink, its the thermal pads giving out thermal grease and need replacing. Mine blew one of the channel splitters so I am pretty sure I will need a new card. At least now I know what maintenance aging GPU needs.
