Computer hangs up for 1-2 minutes randomly, then continues as normal

Hi guys:

This is not really a BSOD issue but Snick requested that I post here.

Recently I have seen a new problem crop up with Win 7.

The computer will completely freeze, does not respond to keyboard, mouse cursor locks up, no response whatsoever. This will last somewhere between 1 and 2 minutes, then everything will return to normal. Happens a few times a day.

Doesn't matter which program I am running, even on an empty home screen it will do it. I had Performance Monitor open, and it does not seem to be tied to CPU usage. The CPU does not go to 100% during the episode, nor did disk usage.

Checked temperatures on CPU, it's steady at 39 degrees.

How would I find out what is causing this? Let me know if you need more info.

Requested files attached.

Thanks.

Snick:

1. As I said, it's not a BSod. Computer operates normally before and after.

2. Since the computer is locked up, I can't start or switch to one of those programs when it is happening, because it is, well, locked up. The only reason I could see what was happening in Task Manager is because it records the last minute of activity.

3. I am not a programmer. I wouldn't know what any of it means... I can run the GUI, but I know nothing of the dank entrails of Windows.

Roy:

I have been through this before on these forums, perhaps check my history. Windows Quality and Security rollups will not install on this machine. Everything else works fine. It was recommended that I reinstall Windows, I do not want to do that and destroy all my installed programs. I have not had any problems other than the installing of the aforementioned programs, which I am not really worried about. Everything else that I use in Windows works just fine.
This problem has just cropped up recently, so I doubt it has anything to do with the previous problem, which has existed for a year or more.
The KB947821 tool finished installing, but did not provide any result file that I could find.
MGA Diagnostic results attached. Note that it wouldn't upload the file because it was a .CAB extension, I change the extension to .LOG so it would upload. You'll have to change it back.

Thanks Roy

The MGADiag Tool does not produce a .CAB file. Can you please run it again as per the below . . .

MGADiag - Check If Your Version Of Windows Is Genuine

The MGADiag Tool provides detailed information about the Microsoft Genuine Advantage components and settings on your system. The MGADiag.exe can be used to analyze and troubleshoot a non-genuine notification issue you may be experiencing.

Download the MGADiag Tool [direct download] => MGADiag Tool. Run the MGADiag.exe and click Continue. It will immediately tell you if your version of Win 7 is Genuine or not.

The [B]MGADiag Tool[/B however, does not automatically create a log file. What you can do though, is either . . .

[1] Click the COPY button and PASTE the results into your post [preferable].
[2] Click the COPY button and PASTE the results into notepad and SAVE it. Then upload the file.

I hope this helps!

Here is the CheckSUR.log file. It will not allow me to copy the CBS.log file, says I don't have permission. I used a Command prompt run as admin to copy it to another directory, now it says it is too big to upload at 1.97 mB... Now what?

Thanks Paul
