Windows 7 - PC crashes

I installed Windows 7 upgrade recently and every so often my cursor changes to a vertical line with small horizontal lines on it and then my monitor goes blank or has a light blue background with faint lines on it. The base unit is still switched on but nothing else happens until I force it to close down, by holding in the on/off button, and start it up again.
I use a Netgear WG111T wireless adaptor that is not fully compatible yet with Windows 7 so that might be the problem. My graphics card is a ATI Radeon HD3450 that only gives me a performance rating of 3.5 on Windows 7. My monitor is a Iiyama E2208HDS and I haven't managed to find a Windows 7 driver for it. So any one of these things could be the problem.
Has anyone a definite answer or does anyone have any other thoughts?
Thanks.

Hi and welcome

Its video probably the video driver. can you safe boot (F8)? if so can you go into device manager (type device manager in search) go to the display tab. Is you video card listed? does it have a yellow triangle on it? is therea ny other "unknow" devices with yellow on them?

thanks and let us know if you need help with this

Hi Ken J++

I was reading your reply and it crashed again. I went into safe mode and none of the listings in device manager had a yellow triangle. However I ran one of the programs to check on any problems you may have on your PC and it came up with this problem;
"AERO current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manaufacturer of your PC or video card for a WDDM driver." If this my ATI Radeon 3450HD card then as far as I know it has the latest driver available? Any thoughts please?

Thanks
Robert.

You're welcome. So you know, the video driver is not running in safe mode and that's a cause for that message. Safe mode only runs the "lightest" driver for Windows to be able to show a screen and not the "real" driver.

Hi zigzag3143 + torrentg

Sorry to say that after installing the latest graphice driver, dated 4/11, from the manaufacturers website yesterday my PC crashed again 5 minutes ago after I had only been on it for 10 minutes.

Any more thoughts from either of you or anyone else reading my message?

Thanks.

I've seen a lot of issues with the wireless USB adapters - so I'd initially suspect that.
Disconnect the wireless adapter and uninstall the software that operates it.
Then use a wire to connect to your router temporarily (yes, it's a pain - but it's less expensive than buying a new USB adapter) to see if that fixes things.

Otherwise, I'd have to suggest installing a wireless adapter in a vacant PCI slot on your system - these experience fewer problems than the USB devices.

Also, for further assistance, please do the following:

Upload Dump Files
Please go to C:\Windows\Minidump and zip up the contents of the folder. Then upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

If you have issues with "Access Denied" errors, try copying the files to your desktop and zipping them up from there. If it still won't let you zip them up, post back for further advice.

If you don't have anything in that folder, please check in C:\Windows for a file named MEMORY.DMP. If you find it, zip it up and upload it to a free file hosting service - then post the link to it.
Then, follow the directions here to set your system for Minidumps (much smaller than the MEMORY.DMP file): Set MiniDump

MSINFO32
Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.
