    Windows Explorer Freeze

I upgraded my HP M8020N from Vista to Win 7 32bit and now Windows Explorer will freeze. I can move the mouse cursor around the screen but can't pull up taskbar, or menu, even with win key. No keyboard shortcuts work. I can't even ctrl-alt-del, have to power down to restart. Had trouble updating the graphics driver, got an updating error that went away when I went straight to the Nvidia website. That didn't fix it. Had MS Security Essentials but uninstalling this did not help. Doesn't give a dialog or anything that can help me troubleshoot. Should I have waited for SP1?

sounds like your video driver is causing this slowness or lack of driver. Do you know what kind of video card you have and if there is even support for your card? Usually there is the default Nvidia driver installed and on my machine it worked okay but not as nice as the Nvidia release driver. You can find out your card but using this tool GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility

Gpuz should tell you what card you are using ATI or Nvidia. Security software is also something that may cause slowness but since you removed it that is out of the question. Have you tried using MSCONFIG and disabling just about everything there? You can run MSCONFIG from the start search and hit enter. It will show you a window where you can choose different type of start ups. You could try Diagnostic Startup and see if it is still slow. I am still guessing that a video setting is off and that could either be a wrong driver or a misconfig on your display setup, like refresh rate it too low or too high.
