what to do if your laptop wont start up

i had this problem the other day and this is how i fixed it, so i thought i would share it with you all.

My Toshiba Satelite (Win7 Retail) refused to boot up the other day with these symptoms ... All LED lights working, No HDD activity and No Monitor display and Some Processor fan action. This all happened after numerous dreaded BSOD's!!!

Fix 1. (temporary). Removed Battery and power supply, held down power button for 30 seconds. replaced power cable and booted just fine (told to do this by Toshiba Support to clear static from the system)

However, this proved to be temporary as the BSOD re-appeared and Laptop crashed again. This time Fix 1 failed to fix the problem. So therefore i tried Fix 2

Fix 2. This time i removed both my Memory Modules (2 x 2GB), left it for 30 seconds, then replaced just 1 Module in slot 0. this time the Laptop booted just fine. I then shutdown and tried the 2nd Memory module in Slot 0 and booted again. This time the Laptop failed to boot. So I put Memory Module 1 back in in Slot 0 and booted without a problem.

My Laptop had now been running for 48 hours solid without 1 single BSOD. Guess i will get around to replacing the dud 2gb Memory Module eventually lol.

Just thought i would share my experiences with the forum.

Thanks for sharing. The moral of the story: if the machine is having serious problems, it could be a RAM problem.

Computers at times could be tempermental for various reasons.

Sounds like you did some messing about that eventually helped alleviate the situation. That why at times a failing machine can be fixed simply by rebuilding it.

Glad it's working well for ya now.
