The graphics card probably didn't cause the symtoms as you suspect, but this is where the whole thing started when I first installed windows 7. So, since all other components have been replaced or removed, and tested to within an inch of their life, the only thing left is the motherboard and the CPU.

Memtest again showed no errors and WD lifeguard, running now, probably won't find anything on the new HDD. DVD drive is new and the video card is new. Only thing else is the card reader. Should make for an easy strip down.

A new mobo would just about cover the entire works. If it still has issues, then its not the computer!!

Thanks again for all your help

I didn't get very far into the strip down, Speedfan to be exact, the CPU voltages were running at 2.95v. Since Intels recommended voltage is .85-1.5v for the E2200, this is probably a bit much. Can't see any burned resistors but ? Also, there is no provision in the BIOS to change voltages. PSU values all look good.

Think maybe thats it. ! ?...
At least there's no dump file.

Way, way outta my league - but definitely a problem with those voltages!!!

It comes down to a choice - mobo or CPU
Pick right and that's the limit of your expense. Pick wrong and you'll have to spend for both.
    Good luck!

Its been a week and finally got to install the new MB and CPU ( Asus P5G41-M LE, E5300 combo ) yesterday. Couldn't tell if the MB was bad or the CPU, maybe both. After set up I could not boot into windows, 0x7B file corruption and had to do a reinstall to straighten that out. So far its been running 24 hours without any major problems. CPU voltage is within the specified range and memory timing and voltage are set properly. Even the DVD ( original ) is working. Have not installed any Windows updates so far, set for 3 am. Case fan won't thottle back and I'm not sure why, but thats the least of my worries right now.

I'm hoping all is finally good to go, 12 weeks and just about a new computer in parts, in what should have been an afternoon project. I'll let you know if it stays this way.

Thanks for all the help usasma and co. Iv'e learned alot.
