    BSOD Question

    Hi there all,

Just have to say right up front that I love this site! It has been really helpful. I'm also really loving Windows 7... except:

For some reason, my computer will randomly crash on me. I can't say that there is a usual activity going on. Sometimes my computer is idle, sometimes I'm surfing... I also installed Windows 7 on my laptop and have had no crashes at all. For some reason though, my desktop will crash every once in a while. I've attached my minidump file. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I'd start with updating these older drivers to make sure they're not causing any issues:
    Code:
    WNDA31v.sys Thu Sep 25 04:28:20 2008
    jswpslwf.sys Thu May 15 06:28:43 2008
    VSTBS23.SYS Wed Oct 15 20:30:15 2008
    VSTDPV3.SYS Wed Oct 15 20:32:04 2008
    VSTCNXT3.SYS Wed Oct 15 20:29:13 2008
Interestingly the last crash occurred in WNDA3100.exe - so I'd suspect that the program associated with it and the WNDA31v.sys driver is likely to be at fault. This is most likely a Netgear/Atheros wireless connection program/driver.

Download a fresh copy of the drivers/program
Uninstall the current copy of the drivers/program
Install the freshly downloaded copy of the drivers/program
See if that fixes the BSOD's

Thank you for the answer. I shouldn't be surprised. But, now I have another question:

I went onto the Netgear website and found that the driver hasn't been updated for Windows 7 yet. Should I still download a fresh copy or wait for an update? Would it make any difference to download and install the same driver?

Thanks for any more help you can give! :)

We'll need an exact make, model and revision number of your wireless device in order to check it.
We'll also need to know if this is 32 or 64 bit Windows 7

    OK, I am running Windows 7 32.

It is a Netgear Wireless-N Dual Band WNDA3100

There are so many numbers on this thing that I'm not sure what else you need. There are 2 versions of this particular wireless device and I'm not sure which one I have. Looking at the pictures on the website, it looks like I have the version 1 model. It looks a lot more like the one I have than the version 2, although it does not look to be exactly what the picture looks like.

Are there any other numbers that you need?

    Thanks for your help!

You're going to have to figure out which version you have.
Look all over it for something like V.1 or v.2

It has got to be version 1. There is no marking on it as which version it is, both on the box and on the device. It also looks much more like version 1 than version 2 on the Netgear website.
