10-15 secs freezes on Win 7 Pro - new 2tb drive??

Just got a new 2tb WD green drive and installed in my system (Win 7 Pro, Asus M2N32-SLI Wireless dlx, 940 BE, 6gb ram, GTX 260 and 3 other WD Black 1tb drives).

Had to go into Admin tools and data storage(?) to see and format the drive the first time. Did a quick format, and moved over a couple hundred gig to it.

Within a few days of being up 24/7, I opened up My Computer to see I was missing a couple other drives. Didn't see them in the control panel either.

I will admit that I have an old install of Win 7 RC on one of my other data drives I didn't get rid of but let my new Windows install on another drive take over booting when I installed retail Win 7.

I have disconnected all drives but boot drive, and when I connect the 2tb drive, it actually doesn't let me see it in My Computer or in Control panel tools, but my whole computer seems to hang for 10-15 secs a couple of times a minute. You know, mouse pointer becomes immovable, etc.

    Suggestions for troubleshooting?

    Hello darknyt,

Could you check in Device Manager and make sure that your drivers are up-to-date?

    Thanks,

All drivers up to date in dev mgr.

Was able to get 2tb to recognize after fiddling with it and reconnecting a few times.

However when I start to hook other drives up the issue recurs.

I know my mobom is pretty old. Wonder if there is an issue trying to put 5tb of newer drives on a system that old. Maybe a jumper setting? Didn't change jumpers when installed so I think it has none.

Will keep you posted. May need to strip out cabling and redo carefully it's a rats nest

    2tb drive is not consistent.

It will now stop showing up in Dev Mgr randomly (still in bios).

Not sure what to make of this. All drivers up to date it appears.

Any other ideas like power supply or ram?
