do you think going from 32bit to 64 bit will make a difference?

Yes, it might. Please edit instead of posting a new post. This site should disable double-posting. Back to your problem - 64-bit OS's often have more compatibility issues than the older 32-bit ones.

Well, no. A 64-bit OS supports a lot more RAM than a 32-bit one. Also, it is estimated that by 2014 75 % of all users will have moved to 64-bit.

now im seeing this in the event logs: after looking into them after my recent lock up

The EventSystem sub system is suppressing duplicate event log entries for a duration of 86400 seconds. The suppression timeout can be controlled by a REG_DWORD value named SuppressDuplicateDuration under the following registry key: HKLM\Software\Microsoft\EventSystem\EventLog.

Could be a overheating issue. Check your temps:GPU-Z Video card GPU Information Utility

just a little more info straight from the event logs...

The Windows Management Instrumentation service has detected an inconsistent system shutdown.

What were the temps? This could be a bad driver. Is there always something specific you are doing when this happens?

hey coolness and thanks for helping out...

primarily ive been gaming when it occurs and cant narrow it down. I play americas army 2.8.5, the weird part is i can play certain maps and play for hours. The lock up occurs suddenly when I venture off and play some other map on a different server.

I tried looking into the armyops log folder and nothing major stood out as far as the game crashing. The scripts simply just stop at the freeze point. I do sometimes get an error message upon boot up which says keyboard failure and I have to power down and boot back up. I was thinking that maybe my razer lycosa keyboard has a short in it which can be causing my the freeze ups, since it does happen when im just browsing around the internet but the system does recover after a minute or so of "thinking". \

what lead me to believe that it could be my keyboard is when I control, alt delete and go into the performance tab, i push a key on the keyboard and my CPU sky rockets to above 50-60 % usage. Other than that I click the mouse and it only goes up to 2% usage and back down to zero.

I have recently downloaded again, all the updated drivers for my razer keyboard, mouse, sound card and nvidia gforce 285 GTX and I still get the hang ups. Ive also ran the K2 solutions program to repair my installation of Americas Army 2.8.5 and it only found issues with a punkbuster folder which it fixed. The error would only prevent me from joining servers and what not. Am I going about it the wrong way?
