primarily ive been gaming when it occurs and cant narrow it down. I play americas army 2.8.5, the weird part is i can play certain maps and play for hours. The lock up occurs suddenly when I venture off and play some other map on a different server.

I tried looking into the armyops log folder and nothing major stood out as far as the game crashing. The scripts simply just stop at the freeze point. I do sometimes get an error message upon boot up which says keyboard failure and I have to power down and boot back up. I was thinking that maybe my razer lycosa keyboard has a short in it which can be causing my the freeze ups, since it does happen when im just browsing around the internet but the system does recover after a minute or so of "thinking". \

what lead me to believe that it could be my keyboard is when I control, alt delete and go into the performance tab, i push a key on the keyboard and my CPU sky rockets to above 50-60 % usage. Other than that I click the mouse and it only goes up to 2% usage and back down to zero.

I have recently downloaded again, all the updated drivers for my razer keyboard, mouse, sound card and nvidia gforce 285 GTX and I still get the hang ups. Ive also ran the K2 solutions program to repair my installation of Americas Army 2.8.5 and it only found issues with a punkbuster folder which it fixed. The error would only prevent me from joining servers and what not. Am I going about it the wrong way?
Well, i think it could be that some maps require more gpu processing than others, and thus you cant play them as long as others. Do you have any other games? Test out with those, and check if the freezing occurs in them too. I ask again tho, What were the temps of the graphics card while playing? Download the program i linked, and find out. this is very relevant.

Alright, everything is normal. So... you seem to have a good graphics card... Those games should not be an issue. We could check if its windows-related... A big lenghty tho. Is this ok?
Youll have to download a Ubuntu Live CD, boot from it, and just hang out in it for a few hours. Possibly play games... Whatever you do in winodows if you can. here

Yeah... No, youre games will not work here, but i was thinking flash games on the internet. Download the 32-bit version, even if your system supports 64-bit. This will not affect windows in any way. Its just a live boot, and you will not have to install anything. If you like the OS, you can install it.
