Still a STOP 0x124 error. The error is a hardware issue - either malfunctioning hardware or incompatible hardware/drivers (neither of which should be happening in a new, unmodified system. I also think that it can be caused by corrupted drivers - but not all analysts agree with me.

For what its worth

for what its worth, I have the same PC and have a persistent problem with BSOD in the exact same distress pattern (Distrorted audio, then break up of video, slow down of machine and cursor, and then finally the BSOD)

(I've done memory scans and updated all the available drivers; I've seen other strings pointing to the Intel Matrix Storage driver and will investigate further)

By any chance, do you notice the crashes occurring shortly after your first boot of the day?

no pattern

there is no pattern to the crashes, although they come in clusters.

I was just over at my parents house today. We got my mom the same Gateway PC for Christmas. She is having the same BSOD issues. I thought it was maybe that windows 7 wasn't tested enough and we tried to install the stable Windows XP on it. I was going to wipe the hard drive, but guess what, BSOD on booting off the windows XP install disc! WTH? It happend twice!

My current thought is to look at the wireless internet adapter.

To help you eliminate the problem...

To help you eliminate the problem, I can confirm that I replaced the onboard graphics with an add-in card. I still have seen BSOD, but perhaps a little less frequently. However, I have frozen a few times.

Other googling produces threads that point at the Intel Matrix Storage Driver. But, I have not confirmed this.

Here is one thing I found, but have not tried: a WinDBG debugger

In the process of trying to rule out this or that when I was troubleshooting my problem, I became a bit suspicious of my wireless router. How do you think it be part of the problem? For my Gateway in question, I use a wired connection which simply goes through the router to the cable modem. I only use the wireless functions for my old laptop and game consoles. I was thinking of trying a connection without a wireless router, but I couldn't really see how that would affect things, what do you think?

I sent the Gateway back to Acer around a month ago (for the second time), and according to the customer service staff, it should be mailed back to me sometime soon.

Received the computer back from Gateway/Acer a week ago. Their solution was to replace the hard drive. Since I've had it back, it has crashed twice. Both have been shortly after starting up my computer for the first time of the day. Basically, same damn problem. However, I've noticed that each crash was 3-4 days apart, instead of at least one per day. I turned off my wireless router, just in case that somehow aggravated something, but I've still had one crash since then. Not sure what to do at this point.

SX2802-03 with Windows 7

"recently bought a Gateway SX2802-03 from J&R around two months ago. A short while after I bought it, I began to notice random BSODs."

Me too!!!!! Got it just before Christmas and it's been doing it since I set it up--same symptoms, same results. It was every 3 days. I've tried updating sometings, running Uniblue's registry fix, etc. If anything, it's worse. Now happening every 1-2 days. I'll stay tuned...

I had a fairly lengthy talk with one of the techs yesterday. He reported that when I sent the computer back, they tested all components (ran the components to their maximum capabilities, or whatever) and replaced the hard drive. I ran down the event list with him; the 0x124 errors had him genuinely perplexed, and he said he would run it by some of the engineers to get some clarification. Basically, it seems this is a mystery to all...

I encourage anybody who owns this model and has it on warranty (which should be everybody since it's such a new model) to report these problems to Gateway. Perhaps they'll institute a recall or some kind of thing.
