Reboots on Shutdown
Greetings;
I am hoping to locate some advice or find someone that has had a similar problem resolved. I have Windows 7 -64 Home Premium installed and for the most part it runs extremely well on my build and is stable. The problem is it won’t shut down normally, instead it reboots.
It will however shut down every time if I first log off or go to switch user and then click the shutdown button at the lower right corner. Never had anything close to this problem with XP, skipped over Vista.
The run down:
Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H 780G (rev 1.0) – yes I know only rev 1.1 + up is listed as compatible but the Gigabyte support page for my motherboard has all the Windows 7 drivers which have been installed.
GSkill 4GB ddr2 800 f2-6400cl5d-4gbpq dual channel.
AmD 64 x2 5400+ 2.8 65W Brisbane dual core.
W/D Caviar Black 750GB 7200 sata.
PowerColor ax3650 radeon hd 512mb 128 bit gddr3 pci express 2.0 card.
485w atx dual rail.
Sunbeam 120mm Core Contact Freezer / cooler. – ok this has nothing to do with the problem but a fair mention because it has been an awesome cooler. I can run GRAW2 completely maxed out and don’t need to run the fan over 1600 rpm to keep her cool.
Running M/S security essentials, with or without, same problem.
What I have tried (in brief?);
Disabled all the wake / lan features in the bios, with the latest bios.
Disabled advanced power options under the device manager for the realtek/lan driver.
Made sure all M/B drivers are for 7-64 from the Gigabyte support page and for the correct M/B revision.
Btw; same exact situation with 7-32.
Tried Shutdown.exe shortcut ( -s –t 00 / -s –t 05) this works 60% of the time.
Latest Catalyst & driver from amd/ati for the 3600 radeon series.
Latest M/S update for the onboard realtek/lan driver, again double checking to disable any advanced power / wake settings.
Tried disconnecting all other drives / usb devices.
Switched power plugs, sata cables, disconnected sys fan.
Tried msconfig and a clean boot process, hiding sys drivers/processes, only thing left was an amd utility, disabled, no change.
There was a reg hack I found that suggested to change (pardon the misspelling) autoshutdown something or another to try “0” or “1”, no – joy.
Can’t find any critical errors or reports to speak of in the logs.
If I use the power switch it goes to shutdown then reboots as well.
Same scenario in the enabled Administrator account.
I have settled into changing the power button to log off then I can shutdown, but I’m disappointed to have to use this process. At this point I’d whiz on a sparkplug, light candles and chant if it would help.
If there might be any other registry settings – tweaks to try or something I could have overlooked that would save the cost of a new motherboard feel free to post.
Thanks in advance.
