I keep losing my external drives

    Right been into the BIOS and couldn't find anything about the usb being set up for 2.0 so does that mean it is set up for it???
    By the qway thanx for all your help so far, hope to get it sorted soon...

    Check under Advanced>Chipset or something like that.

    I wouldnt rule out software problems totally, some drive manipulation software (imaging/partitioning etc) can cause problems like this

    I have seen a few computers bsod or drives become non responsive or disappear because acronis for example was installed with usb and esata external HDDs connected, and after uninstalling everything returned to normal, its quite rare but can happen

    This may well not be the case but do you have any software like this on your machine

    Forgot to ask, what format is the drive? FAT32 or NTFS?

    I guess like Computerplus said i suspect the Power .. I used to have the same issues with my Seagate external HDD

    I appreciate that but its doing it with a western digital as well, and a kingston usb stick
