There will be a button that says options or something like that. clicking that will reveal the format options. you dont HAVE to do that really. Just delete the partition till there all gone and click next. widows will do the rest.

I though the whole point of choosing "custom" instead of "upgrade" was so that you can format and install it to a certain Partition. Obviously I'm not understanding what to do, mainly because I've see so many different instructions and guides that say all different things.

Some say to do delete all partitions and that they don't matter. Other guides say to delete only certain partitions. I've also seen multiple different ways to format, one from installation another from the desktop.

If someone could just give me a nice simple guide on exactly what to do inorder to cleanly install Windows 7 (so that the old version is gone) and how to format it, that would be great.
Honestly, don't upgrade if you can help it. just do the clean install (custom option).

if you have backed up your data:

insert win7 disc, reboot (make sure your bios is set to boot from cd/dvd as first device or use the boot device selector that some bioses have on the main screen)

when it reads the disc it will say "hit any key to boot from cd". hit any key..

click "install" from main screen, Choose "Custom" and next will be destination. if you have backed up your data then delete all partitions till none remain and click next. Please note, you do NOT have to do anything with the drive for it to install, even if you have deleted all partitions. if you were click happy you seriously could just click click click through it..

Windows will now proceed to install.

Reinstalled, and less than 5 minutes of use, it freezes. The coprocessor is still missing. I'm close to giving up on this.

stupid question...
Have you updated any drivers at all or are you on default installed drivers from the OS?

Typical causes of freezing can be narrowed down to faulty drivers or corruption, bad ram or to many devices sharing the same IRQ's.
