I tried removing the ram and putting them back in but the issue is still there. Since I can get into boot menu without a problem surely it's a software problem? Maybe something with the processes? Just having a guess here.

Hi Sanghai,

You could rebooting the System in Selective Startup if that take care enable each services only by one to find the culprit.

Thanks for that Jack! I found the culprit, and indeed it is Avast. By turning the service to manual, I can properly boot. When it is on automatic, it freezes. I am going to try to leave the service to manual but make the program startup automatically and see if it works.

EDIT: Ok I can boot fine, just need to click on this button in Avast. Oh well, not that big of a hassle. Thanks everyone for helping out!

Might I suggest Microsoft Security Essentials instead?

Is MSE as light as Avast? The reason I switched over from Eset was because of the CPU usage (which was around 30k-50k) and now with Avast it is less than 10k. Frankly I just want a light antivirus to run in the background quietly to make me sleep better at night.

Actually, that is an understatement. Yes, MSE is not even noticeable.
I have found Avast to actually have a heavy load on resources at times.
Eset, while good, has resource issues among crippling your system when the license lapses. I don't recommend them anymore. Use their On-Line Scanner for an occasional optional scan, but not the full app.

Well atm my Avast is sitting on 8000, so this is already much better than Eset. But if somebody can show me some numbers of MSE....
