Don't have permission to modify files in this network

About four out of five times when I try to save a file from any program (I see it with Firefox and Photoshop the most because I use both programs often), I get the message:

You don't have permission to modify files in this network location. Contact the administrator per permission to make these changes.

After I agree to that message and try again, it will always work the second time (I do have to overwrite over the file that was created when the message came up; the first file is always empty, but it does sit at whatever folder location I am saving a file to).

I tried all the methods of this tutorial and it did not work. My UAC is currently set to the lowest bar (so it isn't on), and I am on the only user account and am sure that it is set to have full privileges.

This has been the case since I started using Windows 7 (I made a clean installation; had Windows XP previously) when it was first released.

Any thoughts? I have searched on Google.com at least 20 times over the last few months, and have tried a lot of different things, to no avail. In one search, I found out that someone else has the exact same problem I do, as described at http://www.smartcomputing.com/QABoar...p&qapg=1&guid= - I also get the same iTunes error message).

    Thanks,
    Vic

There is a workaround: when you get to the location you're saving to, pause for a second, then hit save. The problem doesn't happen then. It seems to be some sort of delay in permissions - so the pause solves it.

Thanks for replying! I tried waiting (from one second to three to more than 20 seconds) and still have the same issue, unfortunately. Any other thoughts? Thanks.

Hmmmm - that's all I have - have you tried running the 'Take Ownership' dingle thingy on the affected locations? Its the only other thing that occurs to me at present.

see here: Add Take Ownership Option Shortcut in Right Click Menu of Windows 7

its a stretch but it might help

Thanks for following up. I've tried that as well (from the exact same site, actually; I found it via a Google search) and the problem still persists.

This issue is prevalent on both my computer and my girlfriend's. Thanks.

What program are you trying to save the file from?

    Saving a File

You may have to change the UAC (User Access Control) Setting in the registry. This setting defaults to asking your permission in all folders except those normally used for saving files.

VicVicVic, can you elaborate a bit more about where do you save the file? Example: "I save a test.psd to my Desktop when that occured" or "I save a test.psd to E:\Data, and then it threw that error".

The error has occurred as long as I have had Windows 7 when it first came out. I only save files to My Documents and the Desktop, and the error occurs approximately four out of five times in those two places. I have not tried saving files elsewhere, but I can try that and report back.

    Thanks.
