I tried to upload them again. This time I noticed a message "invalid file." I'll try copying them from the other machine again.

Ran your dumps through the debugger, and they all came back as a problem with "ntkrnlmp.exe". Some folks out there swear that means its a missing display driver, others say it means bad RAM. Questions: Did you ever try installing with only 2gigs of RAM? Have you manually searched for all of the latest drivers?

I also had big problems getting CS3 to install, but my symptoms were different than yours. It would start loading, then it would tell me to "insert disk". Well, the damn disk was in there, but my system wouldn't recognize it as executable. I finally got it to install by copying the whole disk to my desktop and running it from there. Different symptoms, I know, but may be worth a shot to try installing from the desktop instead of the disk.

I think you need to verify components, hdd diagnostic should be top of the list this could still be a memory/pagefile issue

Run a full HDD scan to check for errors if you cant get it to work try one from a different manufacturers site HD Diagnostic

If all comes back ok then i would try memtest again seeing as your using a new mobo and let it run overnight

Check all settings in bios make sure ram speeds/voltages are correct, auto is not always correct compare it to ram manufacturers rated speeds/settings and check you have the right HDD mode selected etc etc

Well, I've run lots of tests, reformatted, reinstalled a few more times. At this point, I have a machine that will run Vista, but not Windows 7 64.-bit I'm about to try and install Windows 7 32 bit to see what happens, and also because I need to hook up my slave drive and locate some emails I need info from to get some work done.

The only piece of hardware that really hasn't been tested is my CPU. It was on the machine when I had a short a month or so ago from water spilled on the keyboard. Can someone point me to a CPU diagnostic tool that would reveal if there's anything wrong with it?

Try running a stress test program like prime95, run a torture test & if it runs ok then your cpu is probably ok, errors would usually show within a few minutes

I can't help feeling your going round in circles here with a problem that's been on this forum for two weeks

I am confident as pauly has said you have a hardware issue and you are going to need to strip back your system to find it :)

I would suggest you make sure your data is backed up then remove any unessential devices such as USB or or non critical PCI cards and remove all but ONE stick of RAM.

then perform a fresh install and post back here if it is successful, or with any error messages or minidumps

N.B. what make and model power supply did you use in the end ?
