Thank you for your suggestion, editing the registry I can do. What to do with it and where to look for the dump file is a little beyond my intellegence. If you had time you could be more specific?
    I appreciate your response.

I have a feeling that some file that might be in a 'greater' version of win 7 (pro or enterprise) is missing from home edition. I feel like the processor (supposed to belong to a server) is missing support from the OS. It's just a guess.

After the dump file is created, it will be placed in C:\Windows\Minidump.

Copy it to a zip folder, and upload it to this site for analysis. Use the paperclip icon in the edit box of your next post.

I can create the key CrashOnCtrlScroll but it won't accept the value you suggest or I am putting it in wrong.

    partial solution

Computer has gone home with son with the instructions to run it till it drops.
So far so good. He has tried to crash it regularly. He's opened more programs and played more games than the load should allow and it doesn't even hiccup.

Backtracking, I had it loaded and at certain updates it still would go nuts (blank screens, restarts, safe modes hanging apps).

    So for lack of options:
    1. I double checked bios and updated
    2. I put all the HD's on Sata 1
    3. Put the supposedly incompatable Radeon HD2900xt video card back in.
    4. Put up with the glitches until: I put 2 sets of nvidea video drivers on (on top of each other)- the newest then an older suggested one 8.something ( I would have to check my notes for exactly which ones) with it still glitching then in device manager I "rolled back the driver". Funny thing - it worked??? I still had the nvidea tray, the settings and zero glitches. Everything that was available to the newest drivers is still available.

    No problem since.
    None.
    Can I explain it? No.
If more information could help anyone, I would be glad to review all the processes (memtest, changing out hardware etc).

    Regards,
