Running Startup Repair Leads to Black Screen

Hi Everyone,

About a week ago I had trouble with my computer not loading and I posted a topic about it. Nothing was working so I ended up formatting my hard drive and starting over.

It's been working fine for about a week, but then yesterday afternoon after I finished with it and left for class, I can back to start it up only to see that it won't start.

The fading/flashing windows logo shows but then as the bottom progress bar is still loading, the screen turns black.

After a few minutes I get a black screen and my cursor on it.

I've unplugged my external monitor, any USB attachments, but they don't work.

I've also tried running repairs, booting from CD with my Win7 Disk I burned after my fixing my computer last week, but the screen still turns black when it says windows is loading.

I can't even activate safe mode because I still get the black screen with the cursor.


Does anyone have any ideas and can help me? I got this computer a year and a half ago and I've already had trouble starting it up twice this week.

Memtest did not find any errors

I tried to update bios but my computer doesn't register the flash drive I put in with the three BIOS updates. I went through the whole process on the site that was posted and it didn't detect the flash stick.

I don't know how to open my computer to take out my video card.

Does anyone else have an idea?

Sorry I didn't see what Usasma said but I can't do that because the screen goes black and nothing shows up before anything can load

Since no one replied I had a friend of mine look at it. He couldn't fix it but recommended I install Ubuntu instead. When he plugged in the CD for it, Ubuntu said that it couldn't detect a graphics card and went into low res mode.

I tried Low Res Boot for Win7 but the problem is I would get the blue screen and it would restart and recommend I go to startup repair.

When I go to start up repair I just get the black screen+cursor.

HOWEVER, in my frustration, I began to hit random buttons and got the background for the welcome screen to appear in the background with the cursor and nothing else.

ALSO, I retried using my Win7 Install disc. The same thing happened but this time the window asking me to repair my computer appear (Keyboard type, location, etc.) I pressed next and was also able to get to the page that asked if I wanted to Install or Fix my computer. However, both choices end up not taking me anywhere. For setup, I get Setup is Starting and the circle looping forever. For repairs, I just get the looping circle. The CD also stops spinning at this point.


If anyone has any idea what's going on with my computer, I would greatly appreciate the help. Thank you!
