    My computer keeps freezing...Please Help

    Hi I have been having problems with my comp, here are the specs...

    ASUS P5ND
    quad core Intel q6700
    2x GTX 260 bfg tech maxcore
    8GB gamer fatality memory 5-5-4-18
    sound blaster audigy
    1tb hd
    850 watt kingston psu
    windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

    Okay, now i am currently able to post this because i am running the os in safe mode w/networking. problem is everytime i start os eventually within 5-15 minutes i have a freeze and have to restart my computer, the display simply freezes w/out any warning and stays that way. i ran a virus scan with avg and nothing wrong, i cleaned my registry and didnt help, finally i even defragmented my hd and didn't work, I had recently overclocked the system and so i though that was the problem but when i downgraded through the bios and through the nvidia control panel it wouldnt resolve the problem. I have run out of ideas, i have also taken each part apart and cleaned the entire thing, but that didn't make a difference. Lastly i want to say that i have not made a restore point yet so i cant revert to any previous time and that is what the problem is so all you techs this might be a chllenge.

    Hello Welcome to SF,

    Most of the times the Freezing issue would happen when the Drivers are not up to date or bad drivers, a Firewall or A/V could cause it Or a bad hardware like RAM etc.

    1, So the best approach would be to start with Drivers make sure you have all the Drivers up to date if your not sure post us the MSINFO32 file we will help you find it

    MSINFO32
    Please go to Start and type in "msinfo32.exe" (without the quotes) and press Enter
    Save the report as an .nfo file, then zip up the .nfo file and upload/attach the .zip file with your next post.

    If you're having difficulties with the format, please open an elevated (Run as administrator) Command Prompt and type "msinfo32 /nfo C:\Users\Public\Desktop\TEST.NFO\" (without the quotes) and press Enter. Then navigate to the C:\Users\Public\Desktop directory to retrieve the TEST.NFO file. If you have difficulties with making this work, please post back.
    2, If your using a third party Firewall or A/V uninstall it and see whether that make a difference.

    3, Try to Reboot the System in Selective Startup

    4, If your exhausted with trying these steps then it might be hardware the we can run the Memory Diagnostic

    Hope this helps,
    Captain

    Okay so one of my friends told me that it could be a virus that AVG, my antivirus did not detect, so i tried uninstalling AVG in safe mode and after my computer just turned off. Now i have avg uninstalled and i cant even boot into windows to see if the freezing has been solved. I am currently posting this through safe mode.

    I've had similar issues and wondered if it was my graphics card, so worth a shot i removed it and am currently using onboard graphics whilst RMA'ing my card.

    Here is the msinfo capt. jack, much appreciated

    Thanks guys for your help im still struggling to fix this problem. I would just do a system restore if it wasnt for the fact that I just have too many important programs, files, and documents that would be lost. So in the meantime im in safe mode and everything is lagging like crazy, which is abnormal for a computer with my specs.

    Thanks,
    Steven

    Hello Steven,

    I see that one of the important Server driver is Missing or Corrupt Security processor Loader driver i.e. spldr.sys the message is "This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed." and Yes lot of Crashes that has happen like WMP, Internet Explorer lot more.

    I guess the my suggestions would to go to

    Start > Device Manager look for Yellow marks you might find Security processor Loader driver Right click and click on Update driver.

    Also i would recommend to run System Integrity Checker
    Start > Run > CMD >Right Click and Run as administrator > SFC/ SCANNOW

    Also Remove your existing Display driver and Download the Latest driver from nVidia
    Use this Guide to Remove it Completely Info: nVidia Driver Cleaning Guide - Overclock.net - Overclocking.net and Download it from NVIDIA DRIVERS 196.21 WHQL

    Try these steps and let us know how it goes

    Good Luck,
    Captain

    Okay so now I think im screwed here I ran the sfc/scannow thing and it said that there were some files that were corrupt and that they couldn't be repaired. Then I decided to check out my display adaptor and so i uninstalled my display drivers for the 2 gtx 260s and tried to install those via your link and it said that it could not locate drivers. Finally, I was able to put in the cd from my graphics card manufacturer and go through insallation process, this is all in safe mode, and it said it was complete, but I need to reinstall it at a later time. I have the results from the scan attached if you need it.

    Oh and by the way the security processor loader driver (spldr.sys) could not be found in device manager looked everywhere for it and also typed it in run, but did not find it any help with that?

    Thanks,
    Steven

    OK Steven i guess you could try Repair Install i hate to say this but i guess the best option would to do perform a Clean Install. If its a not an upgrade can follow this Clean Install Windows 7 and if an upgrade can follow this Document Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

    Hope this helps,

    You may want to try the Captains advice on the reinstall although doing that probably won't fix the original problem which is most likely your memory settings in bios. Getting these settings correct is mandatory for stablity. Using improper settings for your memory will also cause file corruption and freezing such as you seem to be having.

    Try these bios settings adjustments which should help you get rid of those freezes.

    Make sure you are running the latest BIOS on the Asus website for your board.

    Set AI Tuning to {Manual}
    Set DRAM Voltage to {1.85 volts}
    Set NB Chipset voltage to {1.34 volts}

    Set FSB - Memory Clock Mode to {Unlinked}
    Set MEM - (DDR) Mhz to {800}
    Set Memory Timing Settings to CL 5-5-5-18 (TCL-TRCD-TRP-TRAS)
    Set tRFC to {60}
    Set Command Per Clock to {2 Clock}

    Set ALL Spread Spectrums to {Disabled}

    Set LDT Frequency to {4X}

    Report back and let me know how these work for you. :)

    Okay, so i adjusted my bios settings exactly like you said but it didnt work. Let me remind you all that it actually doesn't freeze anymore, just lags like crazy when I try to enter windows, enough lag that I have to continue to do things on safe mode. Also, I noticed that i have a cpu/ram monitor gadget onto my desktop that read that my cpu was using 0% and my ram monitor was at 94% which doesnt make sense since i have 8gb of ram and that is more than enough to handle the os. I have another question about system restore, is there a way i can restore windows and keep most of my files?Finally, I just wanted to let you all know that I really appreciate all the help you have provided.

    Thanks,
    Steven
