Can a bad front panel cause a BSOD?

I have an interesting question for the gurus out there...

    I have the following set-up:
    Intel i7 920 2.66 GHz
    Asus P6T Deluxe V2
    Noctua NH-U12P SE2
    6GB Corsair Dominator 1600
    Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 5770
Creative Labs SB X-FI Titanium PCIe Sound Card
    WD 320 GB SATA (primary)
    (3) Maxtor 500 GB data drives
    Pioneer DVD burner IDE
    Plextor PX-W4824A CD drive (IDE)
    Antec 902
    LG 9361V-PF LCD

I am having random BSOD issue (sometimes three days apart, sometimes 12 hours apart; no pattern to it) as detailed in thread
    https://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...d-crashes.html

I have run memtest, Prime95 and Burn In at 100% load and the system passes with no issues. The drivers are up-to-date. I have watched and encoded video with no problem. The system is not overclocked. So, on the surface, it appears that all of my hardware is functioning properly.

However, there is one issue that I haven't addressed. The front panel on the Antec 902 has two USB ports. Both are connected to my motherboard, but only one of the ports works. The other port does not recognize or power a drive when it's plugged in. All the other features of the panel (Reset, On/off, IDE light) are working fine. Antec has sent me a replacement panel, which I have yet to install.

My question is: could a panel not operating at 100% (with one bad USB port) cause random BSOD?

    Thanks for the help.

How are the USB ports on the front panel connected to the motherboard? Is it via a single plug (both together), dual plugs (each port to a separate plug) or to individually pinned wires? Whatever the case, if you suspect a faulty component such as this then temporarily disconnect it to verify whether or not it is indeed the case.

Each USB port has a separate plug that connects into two available motherboard USB ports.

At a minimum, I will disconnect both plugs tonight. If I have time, I'll replace the front panel with the new one sent by Antec.

    Thanks.
