Windows 7: BSOD after video card upgrade

BSOD after video card upgrade

I seem to get this crash while playing COD:MW2 . It does not occur immediately, but only after about a minute or so of playing. It started happening after I installed my HD4870 video card (replacing my HD3450).

I've tried numerous drivers from the latest Catalyst 10.2 rolling back to 9.11. They all crash with BSOD and then forced system reboot.

I've ran the memory/system diagnostics scan via command prompt, and it said no errors found.

Please see my dump file attached. THanks for any advice.

The cuases of these crashes vary. 2 were from the video driver. 2 were from memory and one was from NTFS.

Since the causes are varied I have a gut feeling that its hardware specifically memory. Therefor I would

download memtestx86 and run for 5 passes
uninstall your video driver , download and install a fresh copy
run a system file check to verify and repair your system files
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>SFC /SCANNOW
Also if you are overclocking STOP

Le us know the results.

You have a load of power hungry parts & don't mention power supply in your sig. Plse fill it out properly.

Is card getting enough power?
Push all leads back into m/board/drives inc the little wire connectors-check they haven't pushed back thru etc
Memory/cards seated properly?

Overheating/fan problem? coz problem appears when you heat/stress the cpu/vid card

thanks for the feedback from you both, i've added the AZZA 850W Dynamo PSU to my sig

you are correct zigzag, it appears to be a memory issue...did some searches on my OCZ memory (OCZ3G1600LV2G, which also comes in the 4gig format : OCZ3G1600LV4G), and it appears the automatic settings of my M/B do not set the correct DDR voltage.

I boosted it from 1.5 to 1.65V and it seems to alleviate the BSOD problems. I'm still having trouble getting the timings right, it should work at 8-8-8-24T as advertised from OCZ, but I can only get stability within my games at 11-11-11-24T.

Will try to run Prime95 to see if it will withstand the burn-in at those slower memory settings.

THanks again for the help.
