    It happened again!

    Hey there,

I just had to run System Repair off the DVD to fix the same error. It scanned the system, used the last System Restore point, and restarted normally.

I understand that this temporarily fixes the problem (until it happens again), but I'd like to figure out what it is.

What causes an I/O Error, and what could make such an error show up only after I install Windows 7? It might be a coincidence, but I've never really believed in coincidence unless it's proven to me.

My father had to run the Startup Repair program from the DVD again this morning. This time, I was sure to double-check the log.

The registry was corrupt, and that was rectified with Startup Repair.

I think I figured it out - my father runs CCleaner religiously - I have a feeling that might have deleted an essential entry that CCleaner reported as being faulty/incorrect in some way.

I told him not to run CCleaner's registry cleaner function for a while and see if it has any more problems starting up.

Now for a related question: Can a corrupted registry cause the I/O error? Does the registry control I/O assignment?

    Hello,

I'm having this exact same problem. Upon booting my computer I get a black screen with a "boot device not found please install an operating system on your hard disk" message. When attempting to install Windows 7 via disk it will load approximately halfway, and I'll get an error message that reads "Status: 0xc00000e9".

My CD/DVD drive seems to be working quite fine. Nothing is connected to the computer.

When using a Windows 7 recovery disc in the "System Recovery Options" box that pops up, I am unable to select an Operating System (doesn't show one). When selecting "select a system image backup" I get the same thing. No option.

Using the various "command line prompt" functions got me nowhere as well. I'm unable to use a system restore or restore previous backup.

I've bought a brand new hard-disk and get the same thing. No idea.

Anybody have any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

In the future when the error arises work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot.
