Startup Repair
I have already tried a startup repair without any success, the repair install has to be done from within a working windows although in an earlier reply zigzag3143 said:- You can do a repair install from the dvd. Wouldn't make sense to have a repair you can only use from within the broken OS.
Does anyone have any further information that would help,

Thanks.

Put the windows 7 dvd in the drive.
Make sure your BIOS is set to boot from cd 1st.
Boot from the dvd.
When you come to it click "Repair my computer"
Let it do it's thing.
You may need to do this a few times.

I have already tried "Repair my computer", on the Startup Repair I got the message "Startup Repair cannot automatically repair this computer", On System Restore it could not find any restore points and using the "Command Prompt" I tried sfc /scannow and got the message There is a system scan pending which requires reboot to complete. I tried these options numerous times but always got the same result.

I had to carry out a clean install after first transferring emails, downloads etc to a backup hard drive. Time consuming, but there seems no other way with Windows 7.

I think that what you are referring to is not a BSOD (which refers to a BLUE Screen of Death), but rather an inability to display video on this system. I had the same issue and on my 2nd computer started Googleing for answers. From what I've seen many users are having this same problem and many of them are resolved by disconnecting a 2nd monitor (as mine was). If you have a 2nd monitor disconnect it. If you don't (and you have one available) try connecting a different monitor.
