Windows 7: Loading 'Computer', what...?

Loading 'Computer', what...?

When I click 'Computer' in Win Explorer, Win Explorer starts to "load 'Computer'", as indicated by the tool tip on the cancel button (it says "Stop loading 'Computer'"). But why does this happen? What is there to "load"? If I click a drive letter the top contents of the drive are shown instantly, but not when I click 'Computer'. Also, while loading, the gray bar moves along the top of the window, but the HD lights do not flash any more than in ordinary use when not writing to the HDs. Furthermore, this "loading 'Computer'" gets slower the longer the progress...

It's all captured here (~2 min video) 2010-02-26_1940

This is on Dell Precision M4400 running Win 7 Pro x64.

Any ideas, anyone?

No CD in the drive...

Using Task Manager I tried to kill and restart the Explorer process, but no go, Explorer would not let itself be killed. So I logged off, and the comp froze on the "Logging off" screen, so I forced shut down. Starting up I chose to start normally, and on logging in I'm presented with this:

Before logging off, I created a dump file from Task manager, but now I cannot seem to find it.

After restart Explorer is back in business...

MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

My guess is that a non-MS program is causing your problems. Use MSCONFIG and disable all non-ms stuff. Does problem still exist? If no, then the offender is one of the programs your disabled.

I am having this exact same problem and am wondering what the final diagnosis was?

The only time I have this problem is after burning a CD. After the disc is ejected and I put a new CD in the drive the computer doesn't acknowledge it. If I go to "computer" and click on the drive that's when the loading bar comes on. Also, all my desktop icons vanish and the tool bar at the bottom of the screen won't come up. The only "fix" I've found is to force shutdown but I do not get the runtime error message.

I have run MSCONFIG and it made no difference.

Take a look at these:
