this worked for me

i had the same problem a while ago.8 to 10 bsod a day while doing nothing on the computer. this forum was very helpful in helping me solve the problem. ran every test under the sun. memory test was ok, hard drive was ok. updated all drivers. removed all sorts of programs ect.no virus or spyware ect. nothing worked. bsod's continually. as a last resort, started from zero again.reformatted the hard drive and installed everything again. took days!! never had a bsod again!!

Hi -

A reformat and reinstall of the OS is always my first choice. But I must ask - "days"? Windows 7 can install in < 45 minutes flat, not counting apps that you wish to install after-the-fact, of course.

Good Luck to you. . .

correct. installing the os was about an hour. then came the "fun" part. getting all the updates from microsoft and hp,hunting up all the program install disks, serial#'s,then configuring each programs settings again, searching the net for all those system "tweaks" you did without writing them down ect. in my case it really took "days" to get my laptop totally back to where it was before the bsod disaster. if i had done a really good job backing everything up would it have taken less time? yes probably. lesson learned!!!

For the moment, it looks like uninstalling ZoneAlarm solved my problem.
Many thanks, jcgriff2.

You are welcome.

I am glad to hear of BSOD-free status and certainly do hope it continues. Thank you for posting back with the outcome.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Now is the perfect time to make a system image using the on-board utility. Then you'll have the system just the way you tweaked it next time you need to re-install the OS...

What is a system image?

Back up your programs, system settings, and files

Good Luck to you...
