Were they Windows 7 specific drivers or Vista drivers? Would you mind posting the model number of your laptop please

When you installed the updated drivers, did you uninstall the one you had first? Or just let it install over them?

I just let it install over them. I'm guessing I should have uninstalled them first, shouldn't have I?

It's not necessary usually to uninstall first unless there's an issue Which there appears to be. Wanna give that a try?
