    usb connection

I disconnected the firewire and am using the usb connector, no crashes in 2 weeks. Could it have been that simple? Why would this cause a crash?

    Thanks

    yes absolutely :)

the firewire drivers may need to be updated or rewritten or may even be a little known conflict very specific to your hardware configuration .............

I am not sure if they are windows or third party drivers but if you want to debug it first port of call would be contact the manufacturer of the drive and motherboard with your findings
