What type of problem is it? I am fairly limited in my technical skill when it comes to this level of the computer.
Thanks Again

There have been no crashes for 4 days and I have not had my WD external hard drive hooked up for 4 days. I went to their support site and they cannot guarantee that it will work with windows 7 but they think it will because 7 uses the same drivers as vista . Does this look like the culprit?
You should not need any drivers for the WD external USB drive. It is PnP... right?
If you are installing a backup app (like Maxtor's One Touch, for example) - you are almost guaranteed to BSOD as the majority of those backup apps were written in the XP-era and do not run properly under Vista or Windows 7.
The age of the WD drive may be a problem, but I don't think so as I have external USB drive from 2007 that works fine under Windows 7 x64. I just plug it in and copy files from it or to it.

My drive is firewire, does that make a difference? The drive seems to function most of the time, that is it always shows up in "my computer". I did not install the backup software that came with it, so as you said it is plug and play.... at this point its 5 days without a crash with it unplugged. I will tryin plugging it back in and see what happens.
Doesn't it have a USB connection in addition to firewire?
If so, I would try USB connection and see if it makes a difference.
