Windows 7 won't boot

I have w7 for one week now, and up to now every day there have been updates etc.
Yesterday there were again updates ready to install(i'm talking about the normal windows updates) and they neede me to restart my laptop (Hp HDX X18 1180ED).
But after he had shut down, he never restarted. He get's stuck at a black screen with only a blinking white cursor.

I've tried to access system restore, but that didn't help. I tried all the F(10 - 11-8) keys to do something but i have no idea what to do. The only thing that works is to put in my Ubuntu CD and press ESC during the start up and than i can chose the option to boot from CD, and ubuntu live loads without a problem. if i chose the "start or install Ubuntu" option in the obuntu cd menu i get an error about the graphical card? I'm not sure, but i don't get to the same screen as when i chose the option "Start ubuntu in safe graphics mode" and then i can start it up.

Does this means that my video card is broken?
Could i do something via ubuntu to make my w7 work again? i can acces all the files from my hard drives..

Thanks in advance, I have no idea what to do.

Try booting into Safe Mode, and remove the updates that were installed.

F8 key does nothing! This is how the "start-up" goes: black screen with blinking cursor, i get the HP logo with in the corner "press esc to go to the menu (this is the usual), then i go again to the black screen with blinking cursor, normally after that the windows flag would appear and say 'windows is starting' or something like that, but that does not appear. Only "ESC" key and F10 (bios) works, but I can't do anything with that. F11 (system restore) will not work

Go into the BIOS and set your 'first boot device' to CD-ROM (or DVD) then using your Win 7 DVD, do a repair.

Is the way below how you're trying to use the F11 option? You could attempt a "System Restore" first (from this method) to see if that will get you working.

This is something I wrote a while back.

HP Recovery Center
Be advised that this will take the machine back to the point when you first took it of the box.
The "HP Recovery Center" will give you the option to send to backup anything you
don't want to lose, so have backup media available to use if you choose this option.

With the machine off press the power button, as soon as you do that start tapping the F11 key.
It may take several attempts to do this, if the first attempt fails, try again.
That should take you to the HP Recovery Center. When there just follow the prompts.
It is pretty much self explanatory. From the time you boot into F11 (not counting
any backups you choose to make) you should be back on a working desktop in about
30 minutes. After it restarts just follow the prompts again to finish the process.

If your first option is system restore select no, which should take you to system recovery.
You want to try system recovery not system restore, unless you have good restore points!
If you don't have a Windows 7 install disc and you want to do a "Factory Recovery" you
can contact HP with the model number / serial number of the machine in question
and they will send you a set of recovery discs for your machine for a small fee.
HP keeps copies of recovery discs for almost all the machines they produce.
Just have backup media available before you start. You will lose any data you have on it; but it sounds like you are beyond that being a concern!

Nothing happends when i tap F11 ....
I just gave it a go with a w7 disc, but this is what shows up:
0. NO Emulation System type:00

But when i type something this is what it says: Non-system disk or disk error, replace and press any key when ready

Are you starting with the PC completely turned off, then turn the PC on and then start tapping the F11 key repeatedly?

Yes I am, and under the HP start-up screen appears "F11 - system recovery..." so it means that the pc knows I tapped it, but after that it just goes back to black screen and blinking white cursor. It's terrifying me

Have you tried reinstalling Windows 7 and changing your update settings? You may also want to check with your sound card manufacturer to make sure you have the most up-to-date drivers.
