Windows 7 Crashes due to USB 2.0 insertion
The Problem
Whenever a USB 2.0 MassStorage device (External Harddrive and USB's) is plugged into my computer the screen freezes and there is no way to move anything, restart is required and the USB item has to be removed to allow startup to work. However USB Keyboards, Mic, Game Controlers do not freeze the computer only storage devices.
The Temporary Fix
Disabling USB 2.0 support in the bios has given me a temporary fix on this problem. A whopping 600kb/s transfer rate to and from my pc is not enough, so this fix is very unreliable. I do not believe enabling/disabiling legacy does anying.
The Computer
CPU: Pentium Dual-Core E5200 @ 2.50GHz
RAM: 2x2.00 GB of PC2-6400 Kingston
VCARD: Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 4670 512MB GDDR3
MOTHERBOARD: EG31M-S2 Rev 2.0 Up to date bios
OPERATING SYSTEM: Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate
Conclusion
Now does anyone know how to fix this? I asked a guy at a local Joyce Mayne and he said I have to update my motherboards peripherals firmware but I can find an update along those lines on the manufactures website.
Thanks, Smile.
