Windows 7 Freezes and Requires power off
I "upgraded" to Wndows 7 as I was re-formatting and figured it was a good idea at the time. It has been no fun at all up to this point!
At first I noticed that if I left the machine on overnight with files and/or browsers open, when I came back in the morning it will have restarted sometime during the night and will be sitting on the log in screen.
I didn't worry too much about it but now it has decided to just freeze up. First everything becomes un-clickable and then the cursor freezes up.
Ctrl-Alt-Dlt doesn't work so the only way to get out of it is to push and hold power and reboot that way.
I have read TONS of threads on here and other forums about this issue and I have done a great many of the suggested fixes such as:
- Switched to high performance power scheme
- Updated Windows
- Updated all drivers
- Uninstalled Zone Alarm and replaced it with Kapersky 2010
- Forced the LAN to never go to sleep
I checked the event log after one of the freezes and found multiple occurrences of
the error that refers to SChannel Event i.d. 36888
- This happens even when I have no browser windows open
- I am using Firefox
- I have restored back to the earliest point, but the machine hasn't really EVER been 100% so there kind of is no good point to restore back to
I was about to format and reload (using 32 bit version this time) when I read that people had reinstalled and still had the problem.
I will provide more system info tomorrow providing I can keep the machine running long enough.
Thanks
Mike
