    KSOD on Vista

    Hi all,

My Win 7 RC restarts every 2 hours and I am forced to use Vista business. But now my Vista is also creating problems.
If I can remember correctly, I updated MSSE to the new build thru WU and I think it also installed some of the vista updates.

I did a restart, vista bar progresses, once completed, I see the cursor, then the revolving circle and nothing. Just the black screen. Nothing works further.

Tried all the options avail thru F8, all did the same thing except all 3 safe mode options created a restart loop.

Inserted the installation DVD, went to repair, it told, no problem and to remove all attached devices.

System restore said, no restore points.

Opened command prompt, did a chkdsk, it told it had fixed some issues, but no change in KSOD. Checked the registry for config\software\shell and only explorer.exe is found.

    Renamed logs folder, no change.

Tried all suggestions posted over the internet cloud and all failed. I am not worried about the data, cos, I triple boot and I can backup the required files. My only concern is, re-installation of all installed softwares.

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Note: I do not want to create a separate user in vista forums (My username is already in use there) so resorted in this thread. If against the rules, then MODS can delete.

Your win 7 RC is timing out. Soon it will enter limited functionality mide. Why not buy the win 7 RTM?

Im not sure in your area but any computer retailer would heve it, or you can buy it directly from Microsoft. If you are a student you can get it at a discount.

Update: When I tried opening msconfig from command prompt thru DVD, I get a access denied message stating I have to be an admin. Confusing.

When in the black screen, I tried the shift key press 5 times and I do get the sticky keys dialog. But not able to click either Yes or No. Unresponsive. Confusing again.

RTM is the latest build that was used for the retail version... there are some good deals out there if you are a student ... but you need to upgrade before your copy stops working altogether ...
