Music causes non-BSOD system halt

Here's where I'm at:

When I play audio (i.e. music) on my new Windows 7 UE/64 installation, my system intermittently hangs up. When this happens, the last 1/2 second or so of audio in the buffer repeats over and over again, the screen goes black (or occasionally a black-snow looking effect), and the system ceases to respond over the network.

The intermittent period seems to be affected by the overall processor utilization. The more the system is loaded down, the more often it happens. When running a game while playing music, it happens perhaps once per 10 minutes.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

This was probably caused by your video card driver atipmdag.sys
I suggest that you uninstall the old driver. Go to the ATI web page & use the uninstaller. Then download the appropriate driver for your system
Post back your results please.

SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED_M (1000007e)
This is a very common bugcheck. Usually the exception address pinpoints
the driver/function that caused the problem. Always note this address
as well as the link date of the driver/image that contains this address.
Some common problems are exception code 0x80000003. This means a hard
coded breakpoint or assertion was hit, but this system was booted
/NODEBUG. This is not supposed to happen as developers should never have
hardcoded breakpoints in retail code, but ...
If this happens, make sure a debugger gets connected, and the
system is booted /DEBUG. This will let us see why this breakpoint is
happening.
Arguments:
Arg1: ffffffffc0000094, The exception code that was not handled
Arg2: fffff88004bc80f5, The address that the exception occurred at
Arg3: fffff88005da9f78, Exception Record Address
Arg4: fffff88005da97d0, Context Record Address

Thanks for the advise. Interesting note however, is that the full driver + CCC package didn't solve the problem, but installing the driver-only package did.

Cheers,
EB

As it turns out, I still have the extra fluff installed. I installed the 'driver only' package after the 'driver + CCC' package, it it worked.

Update: after several week or so of running with the new driver-only configuration, there symptoms still manifest. However, the frequency with which the halt happens is much diminished. Before, it would halt every few minutes (20-30). Now, it only happens every few hours.

Any other thoughts?
