Windows 7 64x Keeps Freezing - Please Help!

Hello,

I have read through other threads and seems people have similar problems as I do. My brand new Studio 1747 laptop with Windows 7 keeps freezing at random times, regardless of whether I'm browsing the internet for school purposes or working on a Word document or Power Point presentation. It will work fine for days and then it will crash. I will have to shut it down with the power off button and reboot the system, for the Contrl Alt Delete, won't even work. I'm so frustrated because it's a brand new system and it shouldn't be doing this. The folks over at my computer's manufacturer are no help, but I do know it's not a hardware issue. I just updated the Bios for a second time tonight; I had first updated when I first received the system in January. I have tried everything and I keep my system up to date with the antivirus (McAfee) and spyware softwares. I also perform weekly maintainance on the system. My computer's manufacturer one day try to sell me software warranty because I must have a virus for a whole lot of money for a system that I already paid a great deal of money on, and for which I think should be virus-free. And then another day, wants me to keep performing full-system restores and re-installing the whole system... WHAT THE HECK?!

Anyway, I'm attaching a copy of the latest event log. The error I'm showing you is at the time I believe my system crashed, because there were other errors but that one error was at the time my system crashed last. Any ideas?

Hard Drive - 1TB (2 x 500GB) Dual SATA Hard Drive (7200rpm)
Memory - 8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz
Processor - Intel Core i7 820QM 1.73GHz

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Windows 7 - Vista

Hi -

Sorry to hear of system troubles.

I believe the problem here is primarily tied to the McAfee firewall. I had similar issue with NIS - Office 2007, Internet, etc... same as you back when and removal of NIS solved it.

Remove McAfee using the McAfee Removal Tool (MRT) --> http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

Download the MRT and save to desktop. Boot into SAFEMODE (NO Networking) - tap F8 key during boot-up. Then go to desktop, RIGHT-click on the MRT icon and select "Run as Administrator". When complete - re-boot.

Reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type firewall.cpl | select firewall.cpl above under programs | top-left, select "Restore Defaults"

Install Microsoft Security Essentials --> http://www.microsoft.com/Security_Essentials/

Make sure laptop is getting plenty of air - prop it up on something 1" - 2" off the desk. Keep an eye on temps w/ SpeedFan v4.40. After installation, RIGHT-click on SF icon, select "Run as Administrator". I had 3 new laptops in 2008 (returned 1 after another) that froze due to heat + NIS.

Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer
