Microsoft made the OS, and that's what you paid for. It is up to volunteers like us to support it.

You should be glad MS doesn't offer support themselves. If they did, they would have to charge more for their products. Instead, they keep costs down, and let the volunteers keep their customers happy.

Windows 7

System crashed again this morning on this "beautiful" OS. The only guess I can venture is that it is something called Wave TCG Client Services or the WavxDMgr.sys driver. Any ideas?

MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit

Now that you have a "crash", there are some experts here, I am not one of them, at diagnosing minidump files.

Plese use this link:

In the meantime, I'll make some seat-of-the-pants suggestions:
Start | type MSCONFIG.EXE | Enter | Startup tab
Now uncheck everything that is not microsoft or from the manufacturer of your computer.
After OKing you way out, restart.

Problem gone?

Disconnect from the Internet. Turn off you antivirus and your firewall software.

Problem gone?

Never, never, never run more than one anti-virus software at any one time.

I noticed Microsoft doesn't dole out any support without charging you $259 for a phone call. There is a "virtual assistant" that is a complete joke. You will not find a single email or phone number on Microsoft Support online. These guys shouldn't be in business. Period. What a complete sham.

I doesn't sound like you're talking to the same Microsoft I am. Last November I bought a new system that had W7(64) on it. Ran into an issue with one of my older device drivers. Not only did they help me troubleshoot through three separate sessions, I got callbacks from the for over a week with them verifying that the issue had indeed been fixed. Dunno where you got the idea that you had to pay $259 for W7 support. I had to pay nothing. Nada.

Having said that - if this is a new machine you're using it might serve you well to do a clean install and go from there. When I first got this box I decided to try and go with the OEM install for a couple of months. I was having an occasional Explorer Crash here and there which eventually got worse to the point where I felt I just needed to re-install. Since that time I have had ZERO problems with the O/S. The OEM install must have included a bad driver or utility which wasn't present after I did it myself. This has been the most rock-solid installation I've ever used - absolutely everything works.

Try not to be so polarized about how big a piece of crap the thing is until you've tried everything reasonable. Seven is about as stable an O/S as I have ever seen (and in 30+ years as a software engineer I've seen plenty of 'em). Hang in there.
