BSOD after trying to put new RAM in.
Hello.
Today my dad bought 2 2Gig of DDR2 normal Ram and my motherboard only accepts DDR2 ECC Ram (error correcting).
My dad didn't know that my computer only accepts ECC ram and i had no idea that my dad bought normal ram.
I pulled the power out and waited for the light to fade out then out of the 2 ram slots left, i filled them up with the new ram, i turned the computer on and it made a beeping noise which indicated that i had the wrong type or mix of ram in there, so i turned the computer off and turned the power off then took my original 2x 1GB DDR2 ECC ram out and left the 2x 2GB normal ram in there, then i started the computer on again and it started beeping, so i realized that the ram my dad bought was not the right type.
But then he came in assuming he can fix the problem so he kept switching the ram around while the power was still turned on, then when he finally realized that the new ram just wont work i put in my original ECC ram and started the computer.
Now when ever windows starts to load, within 1 seconds of the windows logo appearing i get the BSOD for half a second, then my computer restarts.
I tried using the repair option after the computer restarts mentioning that windows couldn't start properly and gives me 2 options "fix the problem" or "start windows normally"
when the computer finally finished trying to fix the problem, it says it did, but i still get the BSOD when windows tries to load, so i used the repair, or fix function again and this time i looked at the diagnostic details of what the scan turned up and after scrolling through it said that there was a problem with a driver...
+ i also looked in the Bios to check if there was anything different i could notice, but everything looked fine and the Ram was perfectly normal.
After realizing that nothing could fix the computer i thought i would boot the computer off the windows 7 x64 bit CD and run a repair.
This time it took much longer than the previous repair i kept trying that my computer offered on start up.
After the scan was done it said that there was a faulty driver and that it couldn't fix the problem after the scan i did a memory check and it said everything was fine.
and i couldnt use the rest of the options it offered( system restore: which requrires me to log onto the computer and select it which i cant, and use a windows image...or what ever its called, but i cant use that since i don't have a windows image).
so what do you think could be the actual problem?
is it a problem with the hardware in my computer?
could this problem have been caused by a power surge or something since my dad was playing with the ram while my computer was powered
is there actually a faulty driver?
Would reinstalling windows fix the problem?( i would prefer avoiding reinstallations, i would only want a installation to be a last resort).
i need to solve this fast because at the moment im working on a really old computer and i have t finish my assignments by the end of this week
