IE8 iexplore.exe fault

This application error is occuring every few days and doesn't appear to be related to any specific site. The faulting module is mshtml.dll. Event online help offers nothing. Any suggestions on how best to pursue this error?
i have a new dell pc with win7 64bit and am having very annoying problems with IE8. I have seen over 20 iexplore.exe processes running and it locks my pc up using all the memory. they dont close even after i close all tabs I have to go in task mgr and manually close the processes to get the pc...
