Various errors when booting

Hi -

I'm having serious problems booting and would appreciate any help..

Last night when using my PC, all of a sudden (no hardware/software changes) Chrome crashed then Windows starting generally running very slowly. I couldn't reopen Chrome, every time it froze again. Eventually it was going so slow that I couldn't do anything else so tried to restart it, but it froze, and I switched it off by holding onto the power button.

I was able to load up Windows again one more time, but couldn't open Chrome and some other programs, and it was generally running slow again.

Since then I've restarted several times and have got various errors, including 'Oxc00000e9 Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred' and 'Windows failed to start'. If I restart now my computer it goes up to the 'Windows is loading' screen with Windows 7 logo, but then restarts and takes me to a 'Windows failed to start' screen with options to 'Launch startup repair' and 'Start windows normally'.

I've tried using my boot DVD to run startup repair and sometimes it says 'repaired' and other times came up with an error saying it could not be repaired, and in the log mentioning an external device? I'm not sure what this could be as it's just my keyboard and mouse connected via USB. It says there are no restore points for me to go back to too.

Edit: I just ran the inbuilt 'startup repair' (not sure what the difference is to the one on the WIndows 7 boot disk) and after it it restarted, and I got another 'Windows failed to start' error but with the status: 0xc000000f, saying that 'the boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible'

Could anyone advise me on what I can do to fix this?

Thank you

It sounds like your hard drive is on its way out. Download one of these tools and run a scan: Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

I can't burn the disk... I've tried twice on my laptop and keep getting an error unfortunately.

Do you think disconnecting the hard drive and reconnecting it could make a difference?

Or is there anything else I could try?

Edit: Managed to burn the diagnostics CD but get this error "unable to locate the license agreement file, DLGLICE.TXT!!!"

Thanks

Hello Shyam Welcome to SF,

I believe it might be a Corrupt BCD. Follow this article and see whether it fixes the problem How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows

Hope this helps,
Captain

Thanks for your advice. I ran through these commands 'bcdedit /export C:\BCD_Backup
c:
cd boot
attrib bcd -s -h -r
ren c:\boot\bcd bcd.old
bootrec /RebuildBcd'

But not sure which of the four options below I should do? OR all?

Thanks

Okay I just entered the other four commands in to, and now when I restart I get the following error:

Windows failed to start...

File : \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data.

Try using SeaTools to test your drive. Download the Iso from here and burn it to a CD using the built-in Disc Burning program, or download Iso Recorder and burn it that way.

I'm quite worried now as I went onto the Windows 7 boot disk and there isn't any operating system showing now even!

Is there anyway I can backup necessary files?

I will give the Seagate diagnostics ago too.

I ran the diagnostics and the tests failed...

Is there anything else I can do?

Is the hard drive actually damaged, or could the solution just be a format?

thanks

Unplug the drive immediately!

Buy a new hard drive, and install Windows to it. Then plug your old hard drive back in and copy your files over.
