Win7 x64 BSOD while gaming

I've been getting quite a few BSODs lately when gaming. I must say that I haven't been gaming for some time so the problem might have been there for some time already while I wasn't aware.

The only thing I can say (almost) for certain is that it only occurs when playing games, I've never experienced a single BSOD when on desktop/surfing/using other progs but I can imagine it might give me a BSOD as well when rendering or something else which utilizes CPU/RAM more heavily.

In any case, I'm not sure what creates the problems, although I think it's probably either CPU, RAM or Graphic related (which would be of no surprise).

Anyway, I've been googling and trying to get a better understanding of some of the crash reports I've been getting, but honestly, it doesn't make much sense to me and I'm not getting any wiser out of it.

Apparently I'm getting multiple warnings each time it happens (happened to me about 3 times in 2 days time ... I've played quite a lot for that to happen I must add).

I apoligize for the wall of copy/pasted text but I thought it might be best to provide a detailed post to start with, instead of having to add lots later on. I realize that some of the information provided might not be needed, but I am not sure what is and what is not as I'm a bit of a newbie in this area.

As I'm aware, the bugcheck information might be handy as well, so I've provided the .dmp file (as .txt) in the attachment.

It would be much appreciated if someone could provide me with a clear answer to my problem, random BSODs are no fun after all. Thank you very much!

This is a STOP 0x00000124 error message. It's an error that your CPU passes to Windows. As such, it doesn't have a whole bunch of information that we can understand/apply to your situation. Hi usasma, thanks for your reply. I've read through the topic you linked me and from what I can understand from it, it boils down to checking almost all hardware components it seems?

As for the outdated drivers: do you mean I should update them nonetheless? since I'm not experiencing any incompatibility issues atm. I know you placed that between brackets but maybe you meant that, even though they're functioning, they still might not be functioning 100% properly?

As far as the other post goes, I have some remarks/questions about it:

- I am running on a system which is on a 20% overclock, so I'll try turning that off for now
- I will clean my PC, let's hope that it's just a dust issue or something, but I'm afraid it might be more severe than that
- Installing a vanilla copy of Win7 is not what I'm looking for I think, as I don't get any BSODs when not gaming/stressing my PC ... so I don't see the point in doing that atm? Unless you can give a good reason why I should still do it?

Also, I must add (don't think that is going to be the problem though) that the voltage of my RAM is slightly higher (1.75V) than stock (1.7V) since it was giving me freezes when in auto mode.

By the way: The memtest results said my RAM was ok, but I don't see the point in that either as a succesful test still doesn't guarantee 100% functional ram.

-The STOP 0x124 error can be hardware or compatibility - so updating the older drivers is advisable.
-Turn off ALL overclocking while troubleshooting.
-Dust/dirt can clog/short electrical contacts and can cause overheating.
-The vanilla install of Win7 is designed to test Windows 7 against your hardware. If it's a clean install - and all you've installed is Windows stuff - then it's gotta be a hardware issue (either borked hardware or compatibility). There's no telling (right now) what's causing it because of the additional stuff that you've installed (3rd party software/devices/games/etc).
- Check the MSI support website and the Geil support website - and set the RAM for exactly the settings/timings/voltages specified there. Some mobo's are sensitive to RAM settings, so the research is time well spent.
-MemTest isn't 100% - but it's close enough to make no never-mind. At work we use it to replace memory under warranty - so it must be close enough (since the manufacturer's accept it).

Hi Friend,

Have you tried adding the folder of the game you are playing to your anti-virus's exception? Mine was hanging because of my anti-virus all along. I thought it was my video card. Most games are treated as trojan or anti-virus by Anti-Viruses such as avast. So try adding it in the exception.
