    External Hard Drive Causing Blue Screen Crash

    I am experiencing blue screen crash when I plug in my WD Passport external drive. This drive has worked fine with my laptop/Windows 7 until now. I was told to attach the Minidump folder (seea attached). Also ran scan from WhoCrashed software and got the following analysis. Any help to get this problem corrected would be appreciated.

    Analysis

    Crash dump directory: C:\windows\Minidump

    Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.

    On Sun 4/18/2010 12:14:20 AM your computer crashed
    This was likely caused by the following module: ntfs.sys

    The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect, possibly the culprit is in another driver on your system which cannot be identified at this time.

    This was likely caused by the following module: ntoskrnl.exe

    Conclusion

    </B>

    2 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Note that it's not always possible to state with certainty whether a reported driver is really responsible for crashing your system or that the root cause is in another module. Nonetheless it's suggested you look for updates for the products that these drivers belong to and regularly visit Windows update or enable automatic updates for Windows. In case a piece of malfunctioning hardware is causing trouble, a search with Google on the bug check errors together with the model name and brand of your computer may help you investigate this further.

    I wonder if AVG is causing the problems. Probably, when you plug in the drive, it triggers a scan from AVG.

    Remove AVG completely using Programs and Features. Then, use the removal tool to clan out the rest.

    http://download.avg.com/filedir/util...removerx64.exe

    Then download and install Microsoft Security Essentials.

    Thanks for the help. I have already removed AVG and downloaded the MS Security Essentials. I do not have portable drive with me to test but I will try this evening.

    If anyone else has any insight it would be appreciated. I have had AVG the whole time I owned my computer and have used the external drive daily so I doubt that its the problem. However AVG had just let me know that my service has expired and I was on trial verson. ?????

    I am experiencing blue screen crash when I plug in my WD Passport external drive. This drive has worked fine with my laptop/Windows 7 until now. I was told to attach the Minidump folder (seea attached). Also ran scan from WhoCrashed software and got the following analysis. Any help to get this problem corrected would be appreciated.

    Crash dump directory: C:\windows\Minidump

    Crash dumps are enabled on your computer.

    Conclusion

    </B>

    These crashes were caused by your realtek (rtl8192se.sys)
    wifi driver. I would download a fresh copy and re-install. See analysis below

    It was probably AVG, but if you continue to have problems I suggest that you backup the data and reformat the hard drive. That solves most problems and can be done within a few hours if you have the space and the drive is less than 500GB
