BSOD...of course, why else would I need the guru's?

Hi guys,

I've got the typical BSOD problem (I'm sure you're probably wishing MS had changed it to green in Win7 just for a little variety)
The pc runs 24/7 and runs very well except for the odd seemingly random BSOD. sometimes it runs for weeks and other times just a day before I sit down at it to find that It's restarted and "recovered from an error"

All drivers were downloaded and installed new 2 month ago when I build the PC but obviously something's not quite right.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've attached the last 2 dumps

Welcome to SF!

Both dmps have bugcheck 1E:

Quote:
Usual causes: Device driver, hardware, System service, compatibility, Remote control programs, memory, BIOS
BSOD Index

I suggest running the SFC /scannow command from an elevated command prompt.

Also check for a BIOS update for your motherboard.

HI Jonathan,

Thanks for the quick reply.

I just ran "sfc /scannow" and the result was "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations."

I'll downlaod the latest bios from Asus and see if that helps.

Out of curiosity, what is "intelppm.sys" that your bugcheck analysis refers to?

Intelppm.sys is the driver necessary for Windows to communicate with the CPU. That is pretty important, and a BIOS update might fix it.

It could also be a simple chipset update as well. Download and install both the latest BIOS and chipset driver from your ASUS' website.

Thanks for all the help guys.

DT Roberts,
I've checked for chipset updates and it looks like there have been no new updates from the ones I have installed, so should be good there...on to bios.

Jonathan_King
I just installed the latest bios update, everything's back up so I've got my fingers crossed.

jcgriff2
I've try that next if another crash happens. Sadly I tried to get the MS Security essentials when I bought NIS but it was only in beta and they weren't excepting any more testers. I'd give this a try right now but I think I'm better to see if the bios resloves the issue first before I move on. That way I have the satisfaction of knowing what the problem was.

I'll post an update in a few days...or sooner if it crashes again
Thanks again for all your help
